Razor: Koraat Sparschweinchen (7/8", "Sheffield-style" full hollow, carbon steel)
Lather: Barrister and Mann Seville in Omnibus
Aftershave: Noble Otter Firefighter
Fragrance: Farina 1709
A few days ago, I mentioned a podcast episode about the surprising history of eau de cologne. After hearing it, I had immediately ordered a bottle of Farina, the actual original eau de cologne, Farina. it is considered the first breakthrough in the development of modern perfume for being the first perfume based on scentless alcohol (the second breakthrough is Chanel NΒ° 5 marking the advent of chemically synthesised fragrance components).
Supposedly, Farina is still produced following the exact same recipe for over 300 years and the background in the SOTD pic shows just a few of the names of famous people who are documented users of it. Notable names include Oscar Wild, Queen Victoria (she ordered 600 bottles at once one time), Napoleon (used two bottles a day), both Goethe and Schiller, and many more. So, if you always wanted to smell like king Louis XV or Voltaire, here's your chance.
Great shave today, I forget sometimes how easy it is to lather with synths. The scent combo was very nice today, but not the best choice for getting to know Farina, it gets a bit overwhelmed by the warm notes in Firefighter, but from what I get, it's a bright, fresh citrus that reminds me of Sea Spice Lime. I'll revisit this with a less dominant post shave. I think this would go very well with Abbate y la Mantia Verbena Toscana.
yeah, this stuff doesn't have a lot of staying power, but still, I don't want to know what foul miasma Napoleon tried to cover up using two bottles of this per day π¬
Great photo!
Thanks! I'm playing around with a new-to-me 24 mm macro lens I recently bought on an auction. I'm enjoying this perspective right now. So geometric.
Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Lavender Interrupted - Eau de Parfum
My first impressions of Trouble Maker were very positive. While this is a lavender-forward scent, it's not a straight forward lavender. I like what's going on here, and I'm looking forward to exploring it again.
Lather: House of Mammoth - η¦ (FΓΊΒ DΓ o)Β - Soap
Toner: Thayers - Rose - Toner
Aftershave: Barrister and Mann - 42 - Aftershave
Talc: Yardley Classic
Β 2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
I always feel like a pauper after tax day, but I don't feel in the mood to shave like one, so I felt compelled to haul out the good stuff.
This was a very nice shave today. I always enjoy FΓΊΒ DΓ o, and was surprised by how well 42 paired with it. The shave was so good it merited a talc finish.
I'll be on the road tomorrow and will be travel-shaving for the next few days.
Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Musk - After Shave Cologne
Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
Micromatic Open Comb - if you haven't tried one of these, you're missing out! They aren't nearly as aggressive as people make them out to be. It's a different sensation compared to a DE razor, but it's oh-so-good.
There is still one more shave left in Marduk. I don't know whether I will finish it off immediately, or whether I should give it a bit time. The Friodur is great, and its every time a joy shaving with it.
Today's head shave was done before I met up with a few of my classmates to celebrate our successful midterms (at least the first part of it) at an italian restaurant.
I wanted to try this combo for a long time and today I finally remembered. The dupe soap and splash compared to the extremely expensive original EdP - glad that samples exist!
Tbh, HAGS goes more in a gourmand direction than the actual Interlude Man. It's kinda delicious, but the EdP is much more bold, mysterious and has a lot more character. On the other hand, what am I expecting? I compare a soap & splash set for ~40-45β¬ to a 400β¬ perfume. A lot of that price may be exaggerated, but there's still a ton of high quality ingredients in the scent mix. Anyways, a great scent combo. My closest recommendation for a cheap alternative for Interlude Man would be Bois 1920 - Oro Nero, but this one has much less sillage and projection (at least for me).
The evening at the restaurant was nice and it wasn't too expensive either. Tomorrow we have a final day for our class project before normal lessons resume next week.
