No confusion, they're just willfully lying so they can trick people into legitimizing their instance. Nazis know no one likes Nazis, and they're not principled enough to publicly use the term despite that. Easier to get young lonely people in the pipeline if they pretend to be something else first.
How do admins actually work on Lenny? Do they also review what the users are saying on other instances?
I expected that each !topic had its own admins, as (other than obviously offensive stuff) a comment’s acceptability depends on the context.
(A bad example ‘Hitler did nothing wrong’ is probably bannable in any history sub; but is fine in !bizzaroSuperman)
Edit: I suspect many people are like me and using an app that doesn’t make it obvious what instance they are getting info from. I have subscriptions, but fediverse is still relatively small so I end up browsing All after I quickly get through the subscription feed.
The comments are symptomatic of the instance itself being unmoderated. The instance admin is MIA and right-wingers are using that absence to create a cesspit.
It's not that there is a problem there, it's that they are bringing their hate into other instances. Several instances have already defederated with them, and I expect more will follow. Basically the fediverse version of "fuck around and find out". They are finding out that when you are an bad neighbor, the people of the neighborhood are going to shun you.
And it's not like we couldn't re-federate if the admin did come and "straighten things out", but until then, it's a bad neighbor and we put up fence to keep their shit on their side.
Does anyone not see that you're giving these people attention with these posts? Just block em. I'd literally never seen or heard of that instance until people started posting about it. I visited it out of curiosity and sorted by top all time and they didn't have any posts with over 20 up votes. It's a small dead instance just block it, but stop giving it attention.
What attention are you objecting to? Is it the "we defederated with them" attention that explains what happened or the "this is why" attention that, well, explains why?
Both of these are big parts of the transparency of Lemmy which I'd much rather see continue
