Starting projects.
I'll update when I'm gold at finishing them.

Oil painting
I'm pretty good. I had a client donate two of my portraits of Patrick Mahomes to his foundation, which he signed and auctioned off, so somewhere in this country my signature is literally next to Patrick Mahomes' on his own portrait in some rich assholes' art collections.
I got a bit good at a board game called Go, it's the oldest board game still played. In Asia it is really big and has its own sports tv channel. I'm top 500 or so in Europe. Try it maybe, it's quite fun!
No shit top 500 in any region in Go is baller. That is not an easy board game and I like backgammon.
I have a real passion for software development. There are raw skills like algorithms that lots of other people are better at, but when it comes to API design, clean code, enacting principles of good architecture and UX, I think I am uncommonly good. Most of the people I work with don't care and frankly I think caring and practice is all it takes but somehow that's not something most people in the industry are capable of.
But I love making software that people like or at least hate less than what they had before.
Need a job?
I have one that I'm enjoying, but we are going back to 4 days in the office and it's 1.5 hours away without traffic and I only agreed to 1 day when I took the job. I just had a recruiter hit me up for a team lead position that I had to interview for at least, so for the right opportunity I'm looking. Ideally something permanent. Feel free to DM me if you're serious.
I can tame and turn any semi-feral cat into a lap cat.
I have never been unsuccessful at getting traumatized shelter or farm cats to eventually relax and become super affectionate. It takes repeated exposure, it’s not a magic power. I learened how due to a fortune upbringing on a farm and lots of time to perfect my methods.
Nice! Do you feel like sharing your strategy that works for you?
Put them somewhere safe and quiet, like a closet. Give food, water, litterbox, bed, somewhere to hide.
Come in regularly, talk quietly and calmly and resupply/clean up.
Wait for them to get bored. They'll get bored every time
I am very good at cooking now, like whatever I want to make I can AND I can take whatever we have and make something good, and I enjoy it, and people comment on it and want me to cook for them. Hobby level good, I would say. Food and drinks both, always something fermenting over here, and I love making cocktails (obviously).
All I know is that I don't know nothin.
Found the philosopher.
I see you're very good at knowing
Making logos. good enough that whenever my friends want a logo to be made for their brand or band they come right to me lol
Floors. Putting a cove flash vinyl floor* into some fuck-ass soiled linen room with 8 outside corners, 2 45deg corners and 9 inside corners is just a Tuesday. Have it prepped for me and I'll be ready to glue by break time.
The latest fresh bottle of bullshit is a 270m^2 that must be within the tolerance of 1mm up or down from reference. What the holy fuck is this shit? I hate it and never want to work with these people again.
*this is fucking hilarious, it's not difficult to cut under a desk and I think everyone can see it in the face of the "tractor dude" but hey if bossman likes to be dragged by his ankles, I'll drag him by his ankles.
Im good at building simple tech architectures by saying no to tech we dont need.
Unfortunately nobody listens, management keeps forcing the fastest shitty duck tape solution, and thinking its a great idea to copy paste entire tech environments because its the fastest.
Lols.
It sounds like you are also skilled at maintaining a clear sense of your values even after repeated exposure to pressures against them. It's a good skill to have, though super frustrating to have to use, I imagine
Yeah I have gotten confidence in my opinions after seeing so many tech environments turn to dog shit.
But at the same time, since its not MY tech environment, it doesnt affect me so much when it turns so bad that every day is just problems to fix. Then I move on to another job.
Just noise, but love your handle lol
I say no a lot. But at the same time, I also try to show excitement in whatever my boss thinks is good. The tech is interesting, the tech can be objectively good. But it doesn't fit our use case, and it seems like shoehorning something in just for buzz words is not a great idea.
The really good tech comes out of a need, and we don't have the same need as those other people.
I'm a master of modesty, ask me what I'm good at and I will blush and touch the back of my neck and say stuff life "well shuucks...."
So you're good at touching the back of your neck?
as well as other things, yes
Tech/Software/Development. Apparently exceptional, or very good, I don't know.
Broad and deep knowledge, strong systematic thinking, experience, good intuition, seeking to improve my tools, docs, workflows, mindful and proactive of how we work together, and in including others…
I don't know if work as an escape is a good or bad thing. At least I got that going for me.
Oh! To be good at something profitable. The dream
Everyone in tech describes themselves this way.
I have a tendency to get fixated on something creative, and then pour hours and hours into it while not doing other things that I should be. As a result I have some eclectic creative talents, one of which was playing the musical instruments in Guild Wars 2. They let you play notes with the number keys and I got really into making arrangements and performing for people waiting for boss spawns. I played for hours just enjoying making music and I ended up being pretty well known in the community for a while. I would say only 2 or 3 other people were as good as me at one point. I'm out of practice now but it's always a treat when I hear someone playing one of my arrangements.
This is one I'm really proud of https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qzDhxeECOL4
Lol that was awesome
I like to think I got pretty good at guitar. I'm no virtuoso but I've gotten to the point where I've been truly stoked about where I'm at skill-wise a couple times.
As a kid I always thought I'd plateau in my mid 20s and would never really progress from there but I'm 35 now and I feel like learning in general is still an easy thing to do, or at least get started on.
Here's a clip if you wanna check out some playing.
I also feel like I'm a pretty good music engineer/producer. I like covering songs to practice my skills. Here's one I did recently.
Formal documents. Drafting, formatting, editing documents for legal submissions, complex advice and such.
I need to pick this up in my new job role but find it really boring. I am good with creative writing and have a good vocabulary but I just can't seem to be able to make myself write the formal text. Any pointers for me?
Not really sorry.
I use LibreOffice but I don't think that's the key, it's just different.
I suspect I'm neurodivergent, maybe ASD. When this don't seem how I want them I spend a ridiculous amount of time learning how to make it look right.
I'm very particular about typography.
Share what?
I can't really summarise this skill I'm sorry.
Keeping my neighbourhood tiger free. Hasn't been a sighting of a tiger here since I moved in. No sharks either.
Oh, and cooking. I'm pretty good at cooking. More than one set of friends have said I should apply to go on Masterchef but I have no interest in fancy plating and I'm not much of a puddings guy.
Deep Rock Galactic. I can carry 3 greenbeards on a H5 if I'm not sleepy.
Rock and Stone!
Rock! And! Stooooooooooooooooooooooooonnehh
Nice to see another greybeard! ROCK AND STONE!
There are some things I really like to do but I wouldn't say I ever got good at them, despite dumping lots of time into them.
So I guess you could say I got really good at accepting I'll never be really good at anything.
Was? Like… past tense?
OP gon' kill you
Building trees from LEGO. I've been considered the person to ask about this in the community.
Can we see some of your creations?
Flipping flippers.
But my home machine is broken right now...again.
Obsessing about the different timelines/parallel-universes where I actually became good at things; Obsessively good at it... 🫠
What's your favorite things that you've gotten good at? [in those alternatives]
Hard to say, but in the universe with the least divergence from current one, I'd probably be an author, not like top 10 or anything close, but just someone that's well known enough to be able to live off royalties with sone investments on the side.
As for this timeline, I think my brain is too fucked up from being abused/neglected as a child and severe depression fucking up even further. I have like a very shitty story outline written 2 year ago, and haven't worked on it ever since. Honestly I have a lot of physical health issues as well, so that futher makes me have less hope in the future, and when my future looks so bleak, I can't find the motivation to do anything. I'm financially dependent on my parents for healthcare, and I don't feel like directly asking them for help, so I'm just let my self suffer, because its so fucking hard to even get on a phone call to make a doctors appointment, and so hard to have to go outside and face all the uncertanties of life. And also I'd have to ask my parents for the funds to pay for stuff, cuz like I said, there is no free healthcare in the US where I live, and I don't have the funds for that stuff, so I'm just gonna die sick, and young, because I don't feel like asking my abusive parents for help.
Because maybe when I die, maybe I'll become some form of spirit and see confirmation on how much everyone hated me.
Why am I even typing this lol... sorry for the rant
Reading people.
Had some troubles with family members and drugs growing up, so you learn to read situations and people real fast. I guess it’s a survival skill as addicts often say and do what they need to to get their next fix.
A nice «skill» to have, even though I’d rather I didn’t need to develop it
Cooking. I mean my friends italian grandma approves and says its way better than her daughters cooking
I like to think that I am good at root causing software issues.
Causing them, fixing them, or both?
Hahah I guess both. You learn a lot with either. 😅
Lumberjacking in Antarctica 10 out of 10. It's tough because there aren't any trees to practice on.
Depression. I was born with master-level, didn't even have to work for it
Rapping. Writing it, at least. And the best ever, obviously
Refunct. Can recommend.
Understanding things. Like, I learn rather quickly. I can take something apart and see how it works, I can debug code and understand what it does and usually why it does it that way.
In lectures, I don't need to be easily guided into the conclusion. If the pieces are laid out before me, I'll usually get it before the lecturer gets to that point.
Procrastinating
I will let you know later how good I am at it.
