AppleTV was stupid to let him go. If they had any balls they’d offer to pick up the Daily Show.
- Apple didn't have the balls for honesty, previously. Doubt they have 'em now that JS is on TDS.
- Apple picks their battles specifically with brand identity in mind, which has its ups and downs, but they do have some brass ones and you have to admit it. Let's not all forget the FBI notice they posted on the main page of Apple.com with a letter explaining why they were not going to be developing a backdoor in iOS and wouldn't be gagged.   As if them pushing back against the FBI is putting their brand at risk, it is not. They tout privacy, that letter is 100% PR, reaffirming to their customers that privacy matters.
  Protecting their brand, your original point, is why they're afraid of people like Jon. Comedy Central isn't a name that is going to grab headlines, but, click bait headlines about Apple and controversy absolutely will, using Jon Stewart as a vehicle.
- They weren't stupid. The CCP would have pulled a bunch of their investments if they didn't.

- It's amazing to me that network TV even exists anymore...
  We had a local FM radio host that was fired a few years ago. Started up a podcast immediately and it was way more entertaining and more lucrative than his radio show ever was.
- I don't think it's a question of if he has the influence. He obviously does. There are few people who have earned the loyalty Stewert has, both in audience and, seemingly, in production.
  The question is whether he wants to. I think it'd probably be too much for him to want to do now. Maybe he could just get others to handle it and just let it use his name though? It'd be great if he could establish something where people like him are allowed to speak freely without worrying that much about what the owners will do. Sure, they still couldn't piss off every sponsor, but they would be a lot more free.

You cancel Daily Show, I cancel cable. I've been a top tier cable customer for 25 years because of South Park, the Daily Show, and reruns. I was genuinely upset when Craig Kilborn left the show. I got over it. I don't pay for any streaming services because they all fucked me over too. I'll go back to piracy if I have to. I started on dial up, I have all the patience in the world and a massive stolen and pirated DVD collection to tide me over.

Do people still watch The Daily Show? It stopped being funny around 2005-06.
- I don't know many people that don't watch it.
