Only because they know it doesn’t matter (ain’t even gonna get a vote in the House). This is just MAGAts trying to appear “reasonable” - don’t let them escape their history!
- That's not the only reason. Canada is now in an election cycle and the current Conservative party leader aligns well with Trump. Up until these tariffs and the 51st state business, his party had a sizable lead. His main opponent is the leader of the currently in-power Liberal party and is ready to fight a trade war with the US. The opposition from the south gave them a massive boost in the polls.

  I sincerely doubt it. I think that ship sailed. No amount of backtracking will erase those memories in time for the election.

- Alaska is probably pretty concerned about maintaining free trade with Canada. .
- they do love to virtue signal.
I feel like maybe we should call our 4 senators (AK, MW and both KY) and say thanks for voting the way the did. I am from AK, I generally don't agree with a lot of what Lisa does, but she does have a history of occasional rank breaking, and, performative or not, she is still one of the only senators who doesn't religiously fall in line.
- Please do - phone calls mean a lot, and I really cannot overstate this, a ridiculous amount of weight is given to them if they’re in-state; not email. Any time you can call on an issue, do.
  
  I called both of them. One got my thanks, and one my dissatisfaction. I don't think he cares... But I did anyway.

  I called one and said thanks. Called the other, and told his voicemail the same thing. Not that he will listen... Useless human.
Of course this is DOA in the House or a veto, and it’s symbolic ass covering etc etc. What sticks out to me is the McConnell vote. He did not have to do that, but he did. Interesting.
- He has already announced his retirement, he can do whatever the fuck he wants now.
