TIL of the Donner Party who were a group of pioneers including women and children who had to resort to cannibalism after an early snowfall cut off their destination, just one mountain pass over.

I was once stuck on a train near Donner pass for 6 or 8 hours. The train had a whole car that had been booked by a girlscout group, so I got to spend a chunk of that time listening to a few tweens debate what order to eat everyone in.

Sometimes I forget about how much of a weird history nerd I am until someone reminds me that "no...not everyone already knows about weird history shit off the top of their head."

The South Park guys did a musical loosely based on that called Cannibal the Musical.
