I played it for an hour and realized I still suck at counter strike
Takes time to unsuck
I used to be what was really good at the time 10 years ago. Going back and playing it now is soul crushing. People got so much better and I got worse... I can't believe anyone new even keeps trying with how punishing it is now.
It's really wild that they straight up nuked CS:GO for this and it both performs worse on higher end machines (reports of stuttering when ragdolls activate or shaders load in are rampant) AND it's missing the casual war games modes like Arms Race.
I have a 1070 and both performance and loading times have improved compared to CS:GO. 🤷
Intel A770 with stable mesa drivers, can get around 100-130fps mid settings at 4K in CS2, but got 200+ solid and just ran vsync on at 144Hz 4K very high settings in CSGO. Maybe it's just the Linux build (which notably received zero public beta testing) but my friend said the Windows version was lower frames on his AMD 580 than CSGO too.
Same. I'm fine. I'm also not very obsessed about fps. As long as it's smooth I'm good.
1070ti here 3600x didn't notice much of a difference, I'm still hitting 130-140 easy
well they kinda had to nuke csgo as you can't transfer inventories between games
the game is so fucked tho, on my 1060 I could play csgo at 1440p low at about 200fps, cs2 I'm lockynto get 100 on FSR performance
and zooming with scopes are fucked get about 300ms of stutter every time
If Counter-Strike 2 is so good, why is there no Counter-Strike 2 2?
There will never be a Counter-Strike 3 I can tell you that.
I'm personally waiting for Counter Strike: Alyx
I really wish they had fixed the movement, considering it's supposed to be a tactical shooter I would love to see some sort of footstep mechanic but it's still ice rink battle simulator.
That wouldn't be Counter-Strike though.
Yessssss, counterstrike is fucking counterstrike. It hasn't changed in any drastic way in 20+ years. There's plenty of new games that have all the realistic bullshit.
Counterstrike 1.6 has great movement
I disagree, the whole point of counter strike is for it to be a tactical shooter, anything to make it more realistic is in its original vision
Tried to play yesterday but too many other people had the same idea... We'll, going to tried in a few weeks
I wondered what was going on when Steam said Counter-Striker 2 successfully updated.
So do you think the game is worth getting back into now, or should I just give up all hope at ever being half decent at this game?
Last time I played was in 2014. Started as a Silver I, and worked my way up to Gold 1. I was never a competent player. I feel like if I try to get back into it now, the game will just be full of the same old players from past CS titles and I'll still stand zero chance of ever getting gud. Or do you think the sequel will bring in enough new players that I might do alright?
I just play it for fun now. Try harding it made me miserable. But yeah, there are a lot of new players and it is a new ranked system so you might climb higher.
Been playing casual. Doing a lot better than I thought I would. So now I'm wondering if I'm better than I thought, or if casual matchmaking is skill-based as well.
If you're trying to be good, stop right there. You can become competent, you can grind nade lineups and do hundreds and hundreds of scrims or hours of warm ups and aim training and movement training, and there will ALWAYS be someone better than you, you will NEVER reach the top of the mountain. If you're playing to have fun and are having fun with the game, you should play, because counter strike IS fun, but after getting out of the grindset, all I see when I look at my friends play is how little fun and joy they're actually getting out of the game and it's depressing as shit, don't be like them
Don't worry I don't bother with all that shit. I practice by playing deathmatch. I just want to be good enough to stay out of silver this time around. That's enough for me.
Yes and no, if you enjoyed your time why not? If you are thinking about features then no... The game is still very early open beta sort of feel atm it has the core gameplay but some things might feel off, and most game modes are missing, granted you haven't played in a while so you might not notice any of this, I say give it a shot, the skill difference exists in all games but I'm a believer that it is what makes you passively get better.
Was really hoping it was not going to carry the 2 since it's a pvp game/evolving game. Like division 2 and destiny 2 just drop the number.
I hope it's more stable than the limited test I've been playing. Hopefully comp is not limited to premier, but you can pick the maps you want to play on.
The hitboxes feel really weird. Sometimes it feela like the bullet went straight through people repeatedly ( e.g.: with a scout ) other times I seem to hit something I'm convinced was a fatfingered miss.
I hope it’s more stable than the limited test I’ve been playing.
At least practicing with friends+bots is broken as of today. I guess that's what you get when the beta program only targets die hard competitive players who don't care about anything the casual majority cares about.
I think the worst bugs will be remedied very shortly now that a wide user base has access to the game.
The hitboxes feel really weird.
From what I've heard, this could be that new sub tick system where inputs are handled as closely to real time as possible but the animations are not (it would be too compute intensive to do that as well, if I understood correctly).
it looks a lot like the last one, not very excited
Thats kinda the point! New engine for new cool features and graphics but same core gameplay. They've improved a lot of things. I think the CS audience is excited for this, but they haven't done anything over-the-top different to attract net new players
They kind of have behind the scenes. For one they eliminated the need to bind jump throw with the console, and made it a skill check instead. A lot more visual cues as well including foot step audible distance is now shown on radar. They added a lot of little things that make the game more friendly to new players that don't need to play for years to develop a feel for certain things.
It's kinda a sport now. Valve has a model to stick to. Improving it beyond graphics is risky.
It is the last one. It's quite literally just an update to CS:GO.
They just updated the engine a bit, but it's the exact same game.
It's an entirely new engine built from the ground up.
I played a few matches. It's still the same de_dust2.
Some of the other maps got significant layout changes. Dust 2 remains the same because dust 2. If they changed the layout on that map I'm sure they would get a lot of angry competitive players.
it looks a lot like the last one, not very excited
I don't think it's much about excitement and more to converge their games on Source 2 engine. Dota2 moved years ago and it was barely a footnote for casual gamers. This time the switch is more noticeable and for the time being even a regression (which some vocal people are very mad about which I don't get about a free game).
Nice! I sadly can't run it on my PC, but I hope y'all enjoy I!
Ah, I love counterstrike uh.... 4? (I lied, cs gameplay feels bad)
Enshittification is about increasing monetisation of a previously free/cheap product.
Adobe moving from a lifetime purchase to a subscription service: enshittification.
Adobe not supporting old GPUs: not enshittification.
Twitter locking rate limits behind subscription: enshittification.
Twitter rebranding to X: not enshittification.
Raspberry Pi prioritising business customers making SKUs rare and enabling scalpers: enshittification.
Raspberry Pi moving to a new version of Debian making many tutorials outdated: not enshittification
Ensittificstion is the process of a platform good for users becoming good for business customers, becoming good for investors/shareholders.
Whilst it is a cool phrase, and an interesting observation, enshittification doesn't apply to everything that has a core change.
Enshittification would be mandatory ads in-game, some sort of P2W mechanic.
Requiring better hardware is not enshittification.

Still funny that valve still can't count past 2 even though this is the 5th installment
I'm glad that they have found the workaround to call everything 2 tho
I’m still waiting for Half Life 2: Episode 2: Part 2
They are very aware of the meme and will never release a third game as "3".
Team Fortress 3 will probably just be called "forever" or have some other tagline to avoid being called 3.
It's a nod to the time it'll take to release
7th if you count CS online 1&2 (9th if you also include CS Neo and Nexon: Zombies/Studio but that's pushing it even for me)
And I thought I was pushing it by including Condition Zero
SteamOS 3, btw.
That's version 3. Not steam Os 3
