I can only speak for myself. I thought I was a dog person but a cat that needed a home came into my life and over the next 8 years she became one of my favorite buddies. Completely turned me into a cat person. They can be just as sweet in their own way. Plus they have less upkeep compared to a dog. Also I can still leave them for a weekend and just have family stop by to feed them.
We got another boy cat a year ago and he is a little cuttle bug. Free lap/hand warmer.
Because dogs are so damn needy and I got shit to do.
Because they're independent and a good friend to hag out with whilst I'm home alone :)

Because cats encourage growth of a bacteria that reduces fear and anxiety in prey, and social anxiety is more rampant in society (possibly due to social media or rising global CO2 levels), so it is self medication.
I don't have a cat
Because they are the best! My life is better having them around. We have 5.
