Back in the day, we tried to get Reddit unblocked in our country, which blocks porn websites. No amount of arguments can convince the government agency in charge of the block list that Reddit is not a porn site. They probably got tired of us pestering them and send back a whole bunch of screenshots of porns in Reddit to justify the block.
They did blur the screenshots though, but yeah, pretty much flexing that they can browse anything without restriction in their office, lmao.
It's Indonesia btw. That reminds me, I do have a concern about Lemmy instances that use .id TLD (e.g. lemdro.id). It's Indonesian TLD, so it might subject to Indonesian law, so they'll might run into trouble if they federate with porns communities. Might be a similar situation where websites with .ly TLD got into trouble with Libyan government back then.
Personally I think the format of upvoting posts to decide what people talk about, upvoting comments to decide what information/opinions get more visibility, and branching comment threads so you can have multiple conversations about the same topic is just a much nicer format than forum threads just being bumped because someone posted "bump" and having multiple conversations trying to keep track of each other in one single comment thread. Unfortunately that formula can be easily replicated so really it was just a matter of time before similar alternatives popped up. Same thing happening with Twitter and Threads, all you did was give people a different way to post Facebook statuses, you didn't really "invent" anything so much as iterate on an existing concept and nothing about the idea was that difficult to replicate once it was legitimized as a tried and true formula.
Truer words have never been spoken. Nic(h)e porn, nic(h)e hobbies. It's time to rebuild here. Also it still blows my mind to hear about the amount of money people used to throw on customizible avatars & awards( 3k, like how tf do you even live at this point)
I think Ian Malcom's quote "porn will find a way" helps alleviate that. Porn has always been at the forefront of new tech. I think this will be that way too but hopefully we have responsible admins who help to make it only true if you look for it.
Lemmy's NSFW scene is unfortunately not nearly as active, especially if you're into more niche kinks. It's getting better and will hopefully continue to pick up, but as far as porn is concerned Lemmy is still miles behind Reddit.
As someone who does not watch porn and never saw it on Reddit or Lemmy, why does it have to be on community platforms? Aren’t there already numerous websites explicitly for porn?
