I have set myself on fire outside the Trump Trial (removed from "world" news because apparently a call towards the global population was too US-centric)

  • I was expecting another "stop Trump or democracy is over" sorta thing but this is actually unique and compelling, interesting.

    • This "stop Trump or democracy is over" thing is so goddamn flimsy that I don't know if anyone, no matter how mentally ill, would willingly put themselves through any discomfort at all in order to defend it

Even those who honestly take that slogan at face value do not feel at all moved by it, except to performative tears... no lib would ever do any kind of violent or hurtful direct action like that, because this slogan is not about life or death, as was the case with Bushnell and, mistaken and ill as he might have been, with this man. It's all about feeling comfortable and undisturbed.

    • Lol 100% same.

Fascinating writing style as well, some of the pop culture bits were a bit too insane for me.

But otherwise a great read tbch

      • Seems to me like a white liberal struggling extremely hard to avoid blaming anything except the intensifying contradictions of capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, and patriarchy for his problems. “Fascism is coming” / “a ponzi scheme is about to collapse” like lol bro welcome to the year 1500 in England, we sure have a lot of history to tell you about.

This also has major first time as tragedy, second time as farce vibes. Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire to protest genocide; Mazarello here set himself on fire because his stocks might decline.

        • Seriously, you could do this for every president lmao

It is the year 2000, and the dot com bubble is about to burst and George W Bush is going to make everything fascist manhattan

It is the year 2008, and the great recession is happening and Barack Obama is going to make everything fascist manhattan

It is the year 2020, and a pandemic caused a market crash and Donald Trump is going to make everything fascist manhattan

          • I mean a better example would be a president before his examples, yeah? Otherwise, you've obviously not read it.

            • I did read it; he goes on a very lengthy screed about how the Simpsons is used to control contemporary culture

              He also pulls out

The left shouts “All Cops Are Bastards,” which ensures they’ll be hated by the police and the public (and flies in the face of leftist theory).

I don't totally disagree with everything he writes, but much of it is already plainly obvious, and

We are victims of a totalitarian con, and our own government (along with many of their allies) is about to hit us with an apocalyptic fascist world coup.

We've been living in that reality (fascist world order) for decades now. As pointed out earlier in this chain, it sounds like a liberal on the cusp of a breakdown because they're having issues reconciling reality with their preconceived notions of how it should work

        • The tragedy to farce delay is getting awfully short.
