Limbo for Lemmy
- Limbo for Lemmy is now ready for Liftoff!lemmy.world Are you ready for Liftoff? - Lemmy.world
Limbo [https://lemmy.world/post/356685] and Limmynade [https://bigfoot.ninja/c/lemmynade] have joined forces, and will continue development together as Liftoff! The past couple of weeks have been tremendously exciting times for all of us as events elsewhere have led to a massive growth in interest i...
Hi All,
It has been a crazy few days as I've been trying to keep up with all your great feedback about the app.
When it was pointed out that there was another app in development using the same codebase, I was really interested to see how they were progressing, and in discussing our two projects we very quickly realised that we could move so much faster if we joined forces.
So we've just announced our new combined app Liftoff!
We've brought together the best parts of both projects and have opened up the source for the project for your inspection and contributions.
We will be using GitHub for logging issues, and I will ensure over the next couple of days that all the points that have been raised here or through TestFlight are captured there.
If you want to have longer discussions and interactions with us, we have a new community at https://lemmy.world/c/liftoff.
Thanks all for your support, encouragement and criticism, and I hope to be hearing from you at the new community.
Thanks, Michael
- Limbo is fantastic
I can’t believe how fully featured this app is already. It works great and I’ve had no major issues so far.
I had posted a comment earlier on the desktop but it may have gotten lost. The UI could use a bit of cosmetic tweaks. Nothing major. Just make contrast between elements a bit more subtle in light mode. Things like that.
I have gotten some exceptionally large images on posts.
But this is miles above anything I’ve used yet. I adore it. Kudos.
- Feature request -- better contrasting top UI
Now that groups are adding banners it can be really hard to see the UI against the banner. Maybe adding a border or computing a contrasting colour could make the UI stand out more
- It won’t let me log in on Limbo
I really like this app, and from what I’ve seen, it looks like the most fleshed out Lemmy app on iOS currently., but Whenever I try to log in on any of the instances where I have accounts on, it gives me the spinning wheel of death. I’ve tried multiple times today and yesterday, but it doesn’t work for some reason. I can log in on other third-party apps and on the instance websites though.
iOS 15.6 Model: iPhone 8+
- Build 0.0.1+7 now in TestFlight
This fixes problems caused by a change to the API which meant that comments on posts retrieved via lemmy.ml failed to load. Thanks to everyone who reported this via TestFlight!
Also includes preference for warning on posts with NSFW content, and trimming of excessively long post body text.
Available as usual at https://testflight.apple.com/join/e6ZEbxuR
- Feature request -- return to top
It would be a great feature if when you are scrolling on the home screen and press the home button again it should return to the top and refresh. I was very used to that behaviour in Apollo 😁
Thanks for all your hard work!!
- Amoled Mode Suggestion
Love Limbo! Gotta be the most polished one I’ve tested so far. I love the amoled mode but wonder if it’s possible to have some sort of line or separator between posts on the feed as it all blends together.
- Switching between accounts
First of all I just want to say that the app is great already! It feels much more complete than the other iOS apps i tried, and already updated once on my limited time on the testflight version.
One thing I would like is to not load all subscribed feeds for all my accounts by default.
I have different accounts on different instances for different… profiles, of type of content, so to speak.
Would be great if switching between the accounts changed the subscribed-feed to only include that account. Not sure if this is something that falls in line with the vision of the app, but I thought I’d bring it up.
(Also, would be great if my sorting comments by top could be set as default in settings or similar, rather than sorting chronologically)
- UI improvement requests and bugs
- The number disappears and reappears when voting. This is a bad feel. Can you make it just change the number instantly, even if there is still potentially some behind-the-scenes server processing going on? Also, the vote button itself just slightly changes the arrow color, it would be easier to see and more satisfying if it create a colored-in box around the arrow.
- Posts with hundreds of comments fail to load the comments. For example, see https://lemmy.world/post/373743. The comments won’t load on that post. Also, when you click into a post, please load the comments instead of making the user have to hit the comments button to load them. I consider a post to be as much about the comments as the post. Many times, I read the comments first.
- The post cards have rounded edges and gaps between each post, which is a bit distracting. It would be better on my eyes if the user can turn off the rounded card theme and have that screen real-estate used to show more of the post and pictures. All in need to know when the next post has started is a very thin line.
- Sometimes, the subscribe button doesn’t work.
- Sometimes, the All feed for an account won’t load and I have to first click on the server itself instead of the All option in order to fix this.
- Even though the project is young, opening up the Repo and Issue/Enhancement trackers is ideal. This will have the residual benefit of having others contribute potential code suggestions / merge requests in order to make the app get to a production-ready state faster.
Keep up the good work!
- FOSS Status, Code Release, and Platform Support
Is this project free and open source? If not, will it be in the future? If so, could the code be publicly released on Github or Gitlab at some point? Finally, do you have any plans to support Android and/or kbin?
- Feedback and questions
This app is amazing! Tons of the features that I was interested in that other apps are working on are already in yours.
I have some UI feedback, but want to log it to someplace meaningful. I didn’t see it in the About section, but can you add your GitHub link for this project, so bugs and feature requests can be added there? Also, do you have a Matrix or other chat room like Mlem does? I think that would be valuable as well to discuss enhancements, announcements, etc.
Keep up the great work!
- Just had a post with a REALLY long picture. It would be a nice feature if pictures had the option to shrink or crop card previews.

Post I’m talking about
- Greatly appreciate you bringing this awesome app back!
Not that I have used this app before, but seeing so many advanced features in this app makes me very happy. I wish the original creators are still around on Lemmy and wish they would jump back in as well.
- Is it possible to implement haptic feedback?
I love haptic feedback for things like voting, collapsing, opening, etc. Is it possible to add it to Limbo?
- New version 0.0.1+3 on TestFlight
Fixes for a couple of important issues:
- Make EVERYTHING feed an option, off by default. This was causing confusion as posts picked up from servers where the user isn't logged on can't be voted on, replied to etc. Making this clear is requiring a bit of thinking about how posts are presented, so this option must now be selected in Settings > General
- Change the DELETE account option to be a much less dangerous REMOVE. I've not had any irate feedback yet, but that was too dangerous an action to leave in this app.
Thanks to the over 50 people who have downloaded the app so far. No crashes encountered yet, but lots of great feedback both here and in TestFlight, so thank you all!
The app should update automatically, although I had to fiddle around to get the update myself, so let me know if you have any problems.

- This is already the best app in circulation
Great job, search works great, notifications are there, interface is really nice. This is now my new favorite app. Thanks for all the hard work. Taking donations?

Using TestFlight is a great way to help developers test beta versions of their apps.
Yes, it's yet another app for Lemmy.
Based heavily on the abandoned Lemmur project, with a few updates to make it run with the current API and some minor changes to the UI.
Written in Flutter, so although it's only available for iPhone and iPad right now, it does run on macOS and Android so releases for those platforms may be on their way.
I will be releasing the source once the app has gone through this beta testing phase.
Let me know here of any issues or in the TestFlight build (long press on the icon). Once I've opened the source we can start using GitHub to track issues.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- The app occasionally forgets who you are and mistakenly nags you to log in when trying to comment or vote.
Developers: interested in helping out? Experienced with Mobx, Provider and Freezed? Let me know!
Features:
- Full featured for end users
- Light Mode, Dark Mode, System Mode
- Multiple accounts on multiple servers
- Localisation (work in progress)
- Full search support (posts, comments, users, communities)
