The UN does not supply arms to Israel. The UN has passed many resolutions condemning Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians, going back decades. They have literally already done everything the UN can do, many times over. They weren’t a governing body with binding powers over where the US sends arms, or who France chooses to support.
So I’d have to say that your comment is less effective than their walkout, because it isn’t even properly informed.
Ah theologians. When we invented agriculture so that not everyone had to work on gathering food, this enabled some of us to specialize in advanced skills. But theology, wow. What a waste of time. Get those dudes out in the fields.

Hm, well, we use the plastic bag recycling bin at Safeway for all our plastic bags, shrink wrap, and bubble envelopes. We dropped off 8 bags this weekend. I wonder if they will get rid of that bin now?
Costco packs everything this way and it’s great.
I don’t understand… my local Safeway here in California still offers only single use plastic bags. They are a somewhat thick bag but still single-use, not some permanent thing you own.
The day MLK was shot, he was in that city to help with a sanitation workers strike. The workers were asking for a couple of things including some way to wash up before leaving to go home. In those days people just threw mixed trash into metal cans unbagged, where the food waste would bleed out their juices and rot all week until garbage day. And those guys had to heave those cans up by hand to dump them out. AND they weren’t given so much as a sink to wash up in before their long bus ride home!
Learning about that made be appreciate the humble garbage bag a lot more.
But I have been using the biodegradable bags for both the trash and the compost for some years now. They are terrible bags and more expensive but it’s something I can deal with and it cuts down on plastic waste.
The real thing you’re going to have trouble with is food packaging. I hear you that people got along without plastics in the 1940s but I’d really like to hear a plan for how we’re going to deliver food to people in today’s world without all the plastics. I mean I really would like to hear that plan! I think it will be hard but we can certainly do a lot more.
It’s just a long way to “medical use only.” The amount of plastic used in Agriculture alone is one of the top sources of plastic in the US. It’s used in sheets to suppress weeds in crop fields, and it is arguably a better alternative than herbicides.

I think you’re projecting those expectations onto it. I’m totally fine to hear that a notable city has successfully implemented a cool technology even if it’s not some world first for science, and I don’t think the headline overhypes this for what it is.

Did you click on the article? It’s made very clear very early in the article that they have added regenerative braking systems to the trains. This is well established technology. It’s in every Prius since 1997 so I would think you wouldn’t be confused about whether this is perpetual motion or if they are making grand claims of net energy surplus. It doesn’t say any of that. It’s cool that they are applying the technology in this way. Why does this seem confusing to you?

YT won my business by making something I use every day and mostly can’t find a substitute for.
What are they losing again? They’re not even losing the ad blocker users, who clearly and obviously depend greatly on YT or they wouldn’t be so mad that their free ride is over.
Explain to me again how someone who writes an ad blocker gives you the idea that YT is supposed to be creating an egalitarian world? That part made no sense.
It’s not a “maybe” for me. I haven’t seen a YT ad in years. That’s Premium.
I enjoy the various endgame activities and tweaking my build to try new things. But it doesn’t seem right that I am only level 80 and haven’t gotten a piece of gear I care about in a long time. Grinding out those last Paragon points hardly seems worth it.

Manzanita reminds me of my grandfather, passed on years since. There was a lot of it on his property and as a kid it was the only place I ever saw it. I’m happy that my current climate allows me to grow a couple. They help me remember.

These poppies have just been propagating naturally in my yard. I don’t do anything except leave them alone. We got so many this year that we spotted several people stopping to take selfies with them :)
This is the first year I actively gathered these seeds and spread them around my yard to places that poppies don’t just spring up on their own. If we have any kind of rain this winter then spring will be insane.
It’s pretty fun trying to gather these seeds because by the time the seed pods are mature, they’re also bent and flexed, which makes them split and POP and spread their seeds everywhere as soon as you touch them. So you have to grasp the whole pop in your hand quickly to get hold of any seeds. My kids had a blast with that.
The wet winter and spring really made for a wild year here. It’s dry usually so only hardy, opportunist plants tend to survive. But this was such a year of plenty that everything green just WENT FOR IT. Man I hope we get more like that.
I guess I thought they were more like distinct biomes but it really is just uniform chunks of temperature range. I also didn’t know that they were defined by the US Department of Agriculture, who created the first such system to help gardeners. There are similar maps for Australia, Canada, and parts of Europe, but no single global system. What’s your zone?
I had a great year for Romaine lettuce. After learning how nutritious it is, I started a bunch of seeds and they did really well. We had more than we could eat, and after a camping trip I came home to find they’d bolted (see picture). I recommend trying this plant if you have any interest. They are reportedly water intensive but I didn’t find them excessively so. I was also told they will bolt at the first sign of heat but that didn’t happen for me either. They were mature and harvestable for weeks, even with some hot days.
For years I’ve been taking a pee jug along when I go camping. I buy a 2-gallon jug of kitty litter and keep the nice wide-mouth jug it comes in. They’re firm plastic and have a nice handle. I keep one right outside my tent for midnight pees. Way easier than hoofing all the way to the bathrooms or whatever.
This time we actually brought the pee back and added it to the compost pile! It’s like two of my hobbies finally came together after years. Huzzah!
