  • Ever done this trick?

  • Just imagining the context where it would be phrased like this - "Hi, good to meet you, my first name is John, and my last name is Smith."

  • I think that might be too much of a spoiler 😄

  • In the book, it kept the same mass and got a lot bigger. And of course much brighter.

  • Nearing the end of When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi, which came out a few months ago. It's a bit silly but I'd recommend it. The premise can be summed up as, "What would happen if the moon turned into cheese?"

  • Looks like your post didn't make it to their server.

  • What's the story behind this photo?

  • It was definitely true in my experience- the general feeling was that it's very hard to prove any general rules in psychology, because there are so many factors. You want to be able to say "people are ___" but people are just way too complex.

  • All I remember from my psychology classes is that for every study that shows some phenomenon, there's another study that shows the opposite. That's why I switched to math.

edit: well I guess the main reason was to help find a job...

  • Reminds me of a John Hodgman bit - we have ice hockey, field hockey, and air hockey, implying the existence of fire hockey.

  • Thank you, I thought this was aneurysmposting for a minute.

  • I like how the map shows the curvature of the north border (49th parallel), meaning all these lines bulge north in the middle.

  • I wasn't affected by this directly, but from what I saw it was all handled extremely well - lots of notice so users could choose new instances and mods could coordinate moving communities elsewhere. Makes me optimistic for the fediverse.

  • Japan got it right - their appliances play a little song instead of beeping.

  • I read the journals of Lewis and Clark a couple years ago. It was fucked up reading about Sacagawea's emotional reunion with her brother, now the chief of her old tribe, immediately followed by Lewis talking to the chief about how great things will be for the tribe when they open up trade with the US.
