‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Prepared for 100k Concurrent Players, They’ve Gotten 700K
  • BG3 would be a good introduction to dnd. 5th edition tabletop plays pretty much the same. notable differences are in how movement is and the obvious aspect of being on more guardrails in a video game. although they still managed to make those guard rails feel near nonexistent.

  • Women in China are telling each other to bring their boyfriends to see 'Barbie' — and to use it as a litmus test for their thoughts on feminism and patriarchy
  • I agree with what you’re saying except I think the Barbie movie has provided a unique and well thought out message that manny have failed to convey and finally feel they’re being heard.

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • getting overclock mods and trying new weapon builds

I'm not sure I got to this point, and tbh everytime I've played I've felt like I'm missing something, so my opinion might not be well grounded. But, I've given it quite a few tries and just never get to this point. I'll give it another go though :)

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • lol tbh one of the only part I did like was the map, because of what you're saying. It's procedurally generated, but does require coordination on abilities / movement.

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • thanks brother, I don't really try to not like it, it's just not my cup of tea. I grew up playing L4D 1 and 2 a lot and I think thats all I'll ever really enjoy from that genre. There are other similar games I'm not a huge fan of either.

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • yea thats a respectable reason, it's a rarity.

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • Despite my opinion I will still constantly quote "I KNOW THE WAY."

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • That is honestly like 90% of the reason I have stuck around, the community here is reminiscent of early reddit (or rather when I joined circa like 2011). But, yeah I totally appreciate that people enjoy it and I'm happy they do, I just really don't agree with most their points.

  • Gaming hot takes?
  • Based on the sentiment I see online, my hot take is that Deep Rock Galactic is way over-hyped and is actually pretty shallow. It's a fine turn your brain off game, but I don't think it's as great as people make it out to be.

  • How often do you brush your teeth?
  • thats awesome that you were able to turn that around! I'm looking at doing invisalign here soon too.

  • I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?
  • I wish my wife didn't have some gnarly arachnophobia. The "spiders are beneficial" argument doesn't work :(

  • Anyone else feel like ~99% of their life was kind of wasted?
  • I feel you, I've been feeling similar lately too, I think it's something a lot of people go through so just know you aren't alone. I guess what I'm trying to say in my previous comment is that a common stigma is this:

It’s not really about being happy or sad

I get that you might not feel that way, but it kind of seems like you have some stuff weighing you down somewhere in there. Even if it isn't obvious I just think having a therapist to talk to would really help. IMO it's good even if someone doesn't think anything is wrong and is perfectly happy. It'd be good just to maintain that!

  • Anyone else feel like ~99% of their life was kind of wasted?
  • I'm fixing it by going to therapy and am learning avenues to move forward happy. I would recommend you do the same even if you don't think you have something mentally wrong, your happiness is important and thoughts like these can spiral out of control without you realizing it.

  • Tech execs are stressed out. Half are heavy drinkers and 45% take painkillers, a new study says
  • Yea my next promo is senior and honestly I'm probably just going to take that for the title and then fuck off. Based on my team's current seniors it's exactly how you describe it. Basically just manager light.

  • What are the features you MOST miss from Reddit? (Bonus pts for tech dudes-- any idea if they're on the dev- hoz?)
  • I very much want the ability to create more custom streams

fwiw I believe there is a proposal for this right now on github.

personally I'll probably miss flair, and easily knowing my "karma" count (maybe I'm missing that?). me like big numbers.

  • Tech execs are stressed out. Half are heavy drinkers and 45% take painkillers, a new study says
  • Yeah honestly I'm not surprised, they can probably use their piles of cash to wipe away their tears. I work for a very large company as an SDE and when asked about how I feel about the manager track, I am met with awkward silence when I say I absolutely do not want that path. My manager probably doesn't make a ton more than me, but they work at least 2x the hours with way more stress. Not worth it. These people chose these lives.

  • What are your use cases for the Steam Deck?
  • I like to play it in bed before sleeping, or lay on the couch and play either on the deck itself, or docked on the TV. The main reason I wasn't using a lot of consoles was more just having to purchase games twice / lack of cross platform cloud saves. The deck made that way better.
