  • Lemmy in general seems weird. At .org I had people rather have actual children fucker be free rather than tolerate the police scan all outgoing connections of an entire provider for a single IP over three day. It allowed them to catch the dudes behind a giant child porn website.

I get that privacy is important and state control is dangerous, but at some point you need to show some common sense? That was not a "for the children(TM)" moment or something, it was a concrete and successful strike against actual, significant child porn.

I fucked off of the entire instance right after. What the fuck. I'm not going to have an argument about maybe scanning for an IP over three days is worth kids not getting raped in the arse and put online. Good God.

  • This might be too late since it circulated a lot, but the 'Hanga Dýra Mingja' part isn't actually 'Hanga Dýra Mingja'. It supposedly was old Icelandic but it makes no sense grammatically and the word Mingja does not exist in Old Icelandic. It's more likely to be 'Hangatýr Hamingja´ and then after chanting that a couple of times they say 'Ramr'. It makes more sense since it is a healing song, Hangatýr is Óðinn who is mentioned in the Merseburg incantations, Hamingja is Luck and Good Fortune in Old Norse, as well as a sort of guardian spirit, kind of. Ramr is strength in Old Norse. So really they are chanting ''Hanging God, Spirit of Fortune (bring) Strength'' Makes sense calling on them for healing, rather than hanging animals, I guess

    Goes kind of like this

    Hangatýr Hamingja
    Hangatýr Hamingja
    Hangatýr Hamingja
    Hangatýr Hamingja
    Hangatýr Hamingja Raaaaaaaaammmmmmmmrrrr!

  • That's nice but if 98% are from somewhere with a completely different culture and form of governance then I will probably be not be able to connect much. You avoiding the question has me assume it's US-based?

  • Depends on your definition. If saying that people that can't be arsed to act professionally and with standards should not do moding makes me a cunt, then I definitely am one. Though I feel like we since long have passed the limit of an productive exchange, so I leave you to your ways.

  • In my experience, mods in general have gotten extremely bad. Lemmy, reddit, basically all social media is being moderated without the least amount of professionality, standard or competency.

  • Okay, I give up. How do I user-block instances?

So far I've checked several "getting started"'s and FAQ's and Google and everyone just tells me that it's possible but nobody tells me fucking WHERE. So obviously I'm in need of help. Preferably with a diagram or colourful pictures.

Edit: Okay, so old.lemmy.world doesn't seem to have been updated to allow instance blocking. Did it on the vanilla UI, thanks for everyone who rubbed my face into it! Appreciate the help. <3
