  • One nice thing about my job is my boss gets it. He can't do anything about it and is in basically the same boat but he understands how I'm overloaded and going to miss deadlines because I don't have enough bandwidth to do everything that we're asked for. As long as I keep him updated on the status of things and prioritize them properly we're good.

  • Bazzite. It was that specific app that couldn't open the file. I can't remember the name of the app Ocu-something I think. Dolphin was able to browse my server just fine. Honestly never had an issue like that on Linux before. I found a fix for it by going in and changing a config file for how the app handles files from SMB but expecting people to have to do that just for opening shit from a network share is just the kind of things that make using Linux annoying. I'm still going to work at it because Windows is bad too but they're not in competition because of how great Linux is. It's because windows is getting worse.

Edit: This was the specific issue: https://gist.github.com/NonLogicalDev/f518e93aa19d3fc620bae15d388cba58

  • At the moment the issues I'm dealing with are CAD No Fusion 360 on Linux and FreeCAD has ran like shit on every system I've tried and getting my peripherals working, mainly my Logitech stuff, mainly my g602 mouse but I also have a headset from them that doesn't work properly and from what I understand can't work properly on Linux. Another problem I had a few weeks ago was something killed the secure boot enrollment on my Linux os and it refused to boot at all or even get into repair mode even after I disabled secure boot. I had to completely reinstall it and start over which is not sustainable if that reoccurs with any sort of frequency.

  • There is literally a trick if they're asking how it's possible and it's actually not. The kid is right. If we're just ignoring all the words to look at the numbers why even have word problems? The point is to apply math to situations and that's what the kid did. Nothing provided in the question contradicts his answer. The teacher's an asshole.

  • At some point you’ll realize you haven’t used your Windows drive in a year and it will be a lot easier to make the decision to finally erase it all and repurpose the drive for something else.

It hasn't been a year yet but so far it's been the other way around for me (except for the VM I run my piracy stuff on and my media server, that's going great). I have been running into constant issues and annoyances trying to use Linux as my daily driver. Maybe if all I cared about was streaming content and gaming it would be fine but I couldn't even get through my taxes without having to switch back.

  • I know what exactly two people I went to high school with are doing. One is my brother's wife's sister and one got stabbed to death being a violent moron. I don't give a shit about what any of those people are up to and I'm certainly not earning a good living.

  • I'm not the guy you're responding to but here's my thoughts on it based off my experience.

    Is it sexual frustration?

I'd wager that that's a big part of the problem for a lot of them. I know it was for me when I was younger. Seeing your peers entering into relationships while you can't seem to get even a second glance from a woman does a number on you. Especially when you can't figure out what the problem is. I was fortunate that things turned around for me pretty quickly once I got out of the toxic high school environment and moved onto a different social circle in college that helped me get out of my shell. A lot of dudes aren't that lucky and just get stuck in that bad mindset where they feel like it's hopeless which then takes them on to all kinds of nasty places as time goes on.

Is the solution ensuring that young men have access to sex, regardless of the means or impact on women?

No, in my opinion the solution is making mental health services available to help teach them how to deal with whatever it is that's making it hard for them to find a partner or to cope with it if it's something that can't be resolved. Also just having more social opportunities in general to get people offline and meeting and interacting with each other more would be nice. Women certainly aren't responsible for making sure men are all getting laid as often as they want but sexual frustration/loneliness is a problem a lot of men struggle with coming to terms with and it does fuck up their lives sometimes.
