  • Blizzard in May? Oh my!

  • Evolution of Hokusai's "Great Wave" (1792-1831)
  • Would you mind linking to the other instances?

Didn't know I would need to subscribe to multiple families of a history porn 😅

  • Sequel to Star Control 2 - The Ur-Quan Masters
  • Man, Star Control 2 was my favorite game to introduce friends to during the BBS days. Two player melee over a shared keyboard! The music in SC2 was top notch MOD/XM music back when trackers were starting to form a genre. Beeps on computers were the norm but you could hear a drum track over the internal PC speaker in this game. IMHO Tunic is the only game that came close to the wonder and awe of exploration and discovery. Absolutely a masterpiece.

Babu's game room has my favorite YouTube review. I'll let the bot pipe the link

  • Daughters and Fathers
  • Everyone says 'listen' but I would suggest one way to act on that advice. This is more of a general parenting advice for small kids (or all kids?).

Let them choose what to do. If their interested in soccer, give that a try. If they want to learn about ants, let them observe, guide them through the thoughts.

Play is dictated by their interests, not your expectations or dreams. This way there is much less struggle, save for the times you really need, and learning and play get tied together.

  • 9 May 1987
  • Don't forget, it also builds character!

(Love going through these comics with my daughter for the first time again)

  • Peer review can be fun
  • Could it be sarcastic that the review is also poorly written?

Reads like GPT, but maybe the redundant messages mirror the paper. Wonder if there is more context or it's just a meme...

  • Got excited watching Shogun and made a bokken (wooden sword) from an oak dowel
  • Paper Phenolic makes an excellent bokken material. I have a set. Hanbo and bo are also amazing.

  • "Trust in numbers" was an eye opening book I had to read for a university course.

    https://press.princeton.edu/books/paperback/9780691208411/trust-in-numbers

The idea that "It's difficult to get numbers to tell you the truth" despite how people tend to think hard data is not falsifiable - was my main take.

  • After 48 years, Zilog is killing the classic standalone Z80 microprocessor chip
  • Wow, collapse OS is quite the rabbit hole. Makes me think of the bootstrapping work described in https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Children_of_the_Sky

  • After 48 years, Zilog is killing the classic standalone Z80 microprocessor chip
  • Shout out to the Ti-8X users and anyone who remembers zshell.

I doubt this announcement is going to affect the calculators, but it's amazing to see how many things still run off this technology.

  • totally tardigrades
  • Agree. Tardigrades can survive in space. Tardigrades are space marines.

  • Silmarillion Reader's Guide
  • I am on the lookout for audiobooks with music. Best I've found are podcasts (Magnus archives) and the 'SCP exploring' series on YouTube.

Just some BGM to fall asleep to, and some words not too important to listen to. I guess creepy helps too.

  • We Need To Rewild The Internet | NOEMA
  • A poignant quote here

"It was a disaster so bad that a new word, Waldsterben, or “forest death,” was minted to describe the result. All the same species and age, the trees were flattened in storms, ravaged by insects and disease — even the survivors were spindly and weak. Forests were now so tidy and bare they were all but dead. "

  • What's your fave movie of all time that you love to recommend to people?
  • A friend of mine mentioned 'Contact' was the perfect film. I thought about it for some time and found that I agree. The plot, casting, filmography, and score are all top notch.

Beyond favorite there are quite a few films I consider 'done' we don't need sequels or remakes. Most recently the original 'Willy Wonka' came to mind.

What's your next project in Elite?

I'm currently deciding if I want to make a mamba build, do some Frontline to unlock an engineer, or join the latest gold rush (Don't need the money, but had huge fun back when AXI discord was very active/social with 16+ people in an instance)
