  • You can buy stickers of this that you can put on your laptop. I've seen it on AliExpress, it's like two bucks.

I don't mean to invalidate what you're feeling, but that's what it's like to be a minority in America. I have dealt with that in some shape or form for as long as I can remember. Sorry, I don't have any answers, but I do empathize with you.

Edit: nvm, I changed something in settings, it was user error. Pls disregard

Hi Thunder devs, I have an accessibility issue to report regarding the special styling for original poster and mod names (changed with the last major release). I haven't checked against WCAG, but I'm pretty sure they don't meet color contrast standards; it's pretty hard to read the grey text, especially over the 'mod' orange.

Otherwise, no complaints. I really dig Thunder, I chose it as my daily driver after months of testing alongside Voyager, Eternity, and Jerboa. It just feels more responsive and intuitive, and the customization options are quite good. Nice work!

  • new Spiced Gold label featuring the new, less fun Captain Morgan design

This is the new Spiced Gold label. They did keep the barrel instead of changing it to a chest, but overall it's not exactly what I'd call an improvement. They had the equivalent of Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook as their logo and they replaced him with David Arquette

Edit: also, he's holding his sword like it's a cane. Wtf lol

  • Holy crap, originalucifer, I understood that reference. Muldaur's character Roz Shays was killed off in LA Law that way...by inadvertently walking into an empty elevator shaft! The character was prickly and not well-liked, but it was shocking AF because it was in the middle of a scene and came out of nowhere. Shit, I haven't thought about that for a while.

  • Help with music library setup
  • I don't think Tailscale counts as a reverse proxy, but it does support HTTP/3 and QUIC so that suggestion may not apply here. Still, it might be worth double-checking to see if they are disabled. Also, have you tried disabling Tailscale altogether and connecting directly?

  • Help with music library setup
  • the song will abruptly stop playing at about the 1 quarter mark (only skipping the song or restarting will fix)

You aren't the only one to report halted playback in Navidrome. It appears to be a known open issue that goes back a few years.

One user in particular suggested last fall that the source of the bug may not be Navidrome's fault. Are you using a reverse proxy?

For those that are still struggling with this issue, I can confirm that (in my case) the problem was related to the HTTP/3 QUIC protocol (not a Navidrome issue). As suggested by a few others in this thread, the issue can be addressed by ensuring that your reverse proxy supports and is configured for HTTP/3 QUIC, or by turning off the QUIC protocol on the client side (browser configuration), or by disabling HTTP/3 (with QUIC) feature on Cloudflare.

  • Omg you guys, this bag, this bag is the gayest most fabulous thing I own and I love it
  • Dunno if serious, but there actually is a fanny pack with this design! You can find it on AliExpress, search for "Kurt Geiger fanny pack". It looks like at least three different vendors stock it right now. Happy hunting!

  • Omg you guys, this bag, this bag is the gayest most fabulous thing I own and I love it

It's a designer knockoff I bought online. Crossbody, 28x18cm (10x7 in), and I guess chains are a thing now because most bags have them in some form of a handle nowadays rather than old school leather or fabric straps?

Also, hi blahaj! I'm Kelly. Long time lurker, first time poster. 49, transwoman. Egg shattered into a million pieces last November and have been on a wild ride of self disco with the wife. What an experience it is, learning how to be yourself.

But seriously, this bag. This beautiful, fabulous, shiny bag! How much does this bag rock my face? Omfg I love this fucking bag

Trek Loading Tips: Celebrate First Contact Day
  • Ah, a fellow player? So you know this year's celebration event actually started six days after First Contact Day, on April 11. They did this last year too. I actually haven't played in several months, it's so micro-transaction-y and keeps getting worse.

  • Kodi 21.0 "Omega": A Must-Have Update for Everyone
  • It's been a long time since I used Kodi. Sheeit, I'm talking like nine years or so, like shortly after they stopped using the "XBMC" name. What are people's thoughts on the interface and library functionality these days?

I loved the control Kodi offered, but I couldn't quite get a setup that I liked... I wanted to show previously viewed tv episodes on the home screen along with whatever episode was "up next" or "on deck" but I couldn't quite figure it out. I can't remember the plugin name or exactly how it worked, but I started using a plugin that connected to my Plex Server for this (I was trying to leave Plex due to fewer customizable options and general shittiness), but it didn't always sync right so I abandoned the idea of Kodi completely and went back to using Plex full time.

Ugh. Yeah that was all right for a while, but then Plex started getting really shitty with all the bloatware, UI changes, the new focus on streaming, and dumb/unclear restrictions (JFC, should we be able to run the server without connecting to their auth service or not?) so I dropped it in favor of Jellyfin, which I've been using for the past three years. I dig Jellyfin, but development is slow and it's not nearly as customizable as I remember Kodi being.

So uh, yeah. Any thoughts on the current Kodi client interface? Can you make it usable in a Netflix-y sorta way so it shows your viewing history and what's next in order for tv episodes? That should be easy to set up with themes and/or plugins, right? Oh, and how are genres and recommendations handled? Can you edit genre metadata?

[DISCUSSION] online resource for Trek meme creators

This probably sounds ridiculous, but I gotta say it out loud anyway because it's been driving me bananas for the past few days. I want to create an information resource specifically for Star Trek meme creators. I haven't been able to get it out of my head, so I think I gotta just build it already.

What would this site even have on it, you ask? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the contents would consist of: the list of official Trek fonts for all shows (already in progress), links to screencap sites, links to the few Trek meme generators that are out there, software recommendations by platform, maybe a few guides here and there. Basically, all the stuff that would make it possible or easier to make your own Trek memes. Most of us here already have our own workflow set up just the way we want it, but not everybody does, and I'm also thinking a resource like this could help lower the barrier to entry a little.

I write code and documentation for a living, so it's kinda in my wheelhouse. It would be a fun thing to do on the side, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a platform and host already in mind.

But I'm wondering if this would actually be used? And would anyone here be interested in contributing?

    -------

*okay, so "Star Trek Film BT" is listed as the opening title font for the TOS movies, DS9, and VOY, but the one actually used has a slightly heavier weight and is likely the medium or bold variation of the typeface. I couldn't find any documentation about this discrepancy or the heavier version online. People who purchased the typeface from Bitstream or another official foundry might have it. That said, "Star Trek Film BT" is really close, but if you want a closer title font match for the TOS movies, DS9, or VOY, then I recommend adding an outline to mimic the heavier "bold" font weight.

source: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek_fonts. Also, my eyes, since I had nothing to do while Lemmy was down during the instance upgrade and took it upon myself to go through the titles and credits for the aforementioned shows and TOS movies to compare and verify their on-screen accuracy instead of going outside. All these fonts are an exact match with what's on screen, with the exception of: (1) the font titles for the TOS movies, DS9, and VOY, which as mentioned above use the medium or bold version of "Star Trek Film BT," and (2) the fonts for TOS movie credits, which vary and to be honest I couldn't be arsed to obsess over details at that point. I would just use "Montalban" for simulating TOS movie credits. Ok fine, for that one nerd who is inevitably gonna nitpick: <adjusts glasses> for an accurate simulation of Star Trek: The Motion Picture's credits you wanna use "Star Trek Film BT" because "Montalban" was obviously created with The Wrath of Khan in mind and didn't exist at the time, naturally making "Star Trek Film BT" the logical choice. Overall these fonts do require tracking adjustment (especially TNG credits), but they are a match. Happy memeing!

Edit (2024-03-03): just some formatting fixes

    ----

Edit (2024-03-05): added info for the bottom part of the TNG opening title ("The Next Generation"), and added Enterprise opening title font. I should move this to a location that is a little more sustainable for long-term maintenance.

    ----

Edit (2024-03-08): scope has expanded. Now planning to build online resource hub for Trek meme makers, which will include updated versions of this font listing. Discussion on that is in this post. More news to come.

Also, @ummthatguy@lemmy.world has this great workaround for those who can't load fonts:

    > It occurred to me that some mobile users may not be able to use those files on some apps. On several occasions, I've used fontmeme.com and it has just about everything, including other sci-fi adjacents.

How I see myself sometimes when I'm feeling dysphoric

I'm trans, came out just a couple of months ago. I don't post about this on Lemmy very often (if at all), but it's been a struggle. My dysphoria - in a nutshell, the incongruency between what I see in the mirror and what I want to look like as a woman - has had a profound effect on me. I'm pushing fifty, and I can honestly say transitioning is the most difficult thing I have ever had to do.

I have good days and bad days. Today is a good day, but on the bad ones I feel as though I look like Quark in the DS9 episode "Profit and Lace." I'll tell myself all kinds of awful, self-hating transphobic things like "you're just a man in a dress" or "ugh what is that thing" or "freak" or "you'll never be a real woman." What a repulsive thing to say to yourself, how terribly unkind. I have specific issues with my facial hair, which are being addressed, but things like that take time. It's like I'm fighting a battle against my own body, something I think most people can't easily relate to. It's hard to be patient while living in this (emotionally) painful in-between state, not knowing if I'll ever be happy with myself. If it weren't for my incredibly supportive wife, I'm not sure where I'd be right now.

Yeah, today is a good day. For now, at least. I feel safe and comfortable posting this here, you guys have always been a supportive and accepting community and I'd like to say thank you for that. Maybe I should start posting in the blahaj instance rather than bombarding you guys with this. Anyway, I'm gonna sign off for a while, I got my hands full at work today and gotta focus. Thanks for letting me vent.
