Biden announces proposal to replace all lead water service lines in US within 10 years
  • Which is exactly why federal funds are necessary for it rather than local. The places that need this most tend to be those with the least money for local infrastructure, but if the money doesn't have to come from the cash-strapped local budget, that's not an issue.

  • Biden announces proposal to replace all lead water service lines in US within 10 years
  • Projects are already underway and have replaced our two lagest lead service lines in the medium-small Illinois city where I live via federal funding over the last year. City literally just applied for the funds from this same program and hired private contractors once the funds were approved. About 3 months of construction on each of the 2 roads under which our main service lines run, and now lead has been fully removed from 60% of residents water supply, with the last 40% to occur over the next 18 months.

    It's been pretty simple.

  • Tesla warns that a federal probe into whether it exaggerated the range of its cars may lead to a ‘material adverse impact on our business’
  • What is a single thing about Twitter that has gotten better? Selling my Tesla for an electric Mustang was the best choice I've made in a while.

I don't give really a shit about him, but from the dropoff in Twitter's usage and value to production and publicity issues at Tesla and cutting off the Ukraine army's access to Starlink, it seems there's, well, a lot to hate about him. And like he might not be that good at his job.

  • Brave1 developers created a ground-based kamikaze robot "Ratel S" for the Ukrainian military. It can carry anti-tank mines at a speed of 24 km/h, with a range of 6 km.
  • At the scale of war, something purpose-built like this is helpful because it's customized and standardized for exactly what they want it to do. But if it would really be that helpful for individual acts of terror, I think we'd have seen rudimentary versions by now. If terrorists haven't been using RC cars or rovers already, I don't think this is enough of a jump in tech to make them start.

  • its the end of the rule as we know it
  • In comic, dystopian reality, selling drugs (really just weed) was how I graduated college debt-free, and graduating without debt was the only way I could take out/afford a loan for a house.

So apparently, it's true what they say, whether planting or selling trees, the best time to do it was 10 years ago. The second best time is now! (Except don't)

  • BREAKING: Putin ties to CIA revealed
  • Pixelated photos of Joe Rogan, wigs photoshopped onto Putin to make him look like a woman, and a claim that he is a nondescript bearded man who, in carrying out a clandestine operation, stood next to Osama in a published video? This is the stuff of crackpot dreams, like the video that went viral a decade ago claiming Osama and Obama were the same person.

  • My recipe for iced coffee (based on James Hoffmann)
  • Make a big batch of pour over and just freeze the extra in an ice tray. Use that to ice hot coffee and you don't have to change your recipe at all (though you can still use a slightly tighter ratio since cold things taste less, which is why I've cream needs such saturated flavoring and so much sugar).

  • Ok buddy. You know how I think and what I notice. That's an impressive power you got there. Good thing you're putting it towards such a thorough understanding of the situation.

  • Notice that both of those are examples of collateral damage with the aggressors being the direct target. That's a tragedy, but one that is very different and not one I would have "implored" against, as you assert. That's a 5-point word, by the way, nice job.

This is the opposite tactic that Hamas has taken. They aren't focusing on the IDF and incurring collateral damage. They are focusing on civilians instead of militants with the sole intention of suffering and weaponized terror. Yours are entirely false equivalents.

  • They have a right to be angry, no one has a right to kill children, rape women, and intentionally target civilians for the purpose of suffering and terror alone. Period. As a Jewish person, if Jews started blowing up orphanages and torturing women and children in 1945 Germany, they'd have been in the wrong, even though Germany was even worse. And if you're calling Israel a state based on displacement (and it is displacement, not genocide), the blame lies as much on the Allied powers who planned the state as it does on Jews who tried to move to the one state in the world that would accept them wholly.

  • And the folks on the other side with genocide literally written into their charter? Are we saying that Hamas isn't genocidal when the extermination of Jews is central to their vision for Palestine? This is so intentionally misinformed.

  • greatest movie turnaround
  • The recent Dungeons and Dragons does something similar well. Independence Day is a classic in that vein. Many/most superhero movies follow that formula as well.

A different scale, but a lot of sports movies have a similarly satisfying underdog/comeback story.

  • Less astringency: Grind finer

A lot of people already know this, I'm sure, but it's a bit counterintuitive, and here's hoping it helps any beginners scrolling through.

This is particularly the case for pour over and drip coffee. I long assumed that an astringent flavor/feeling, sorta mouth-drying and unpleasantly mouth-watering at the same time, with a biting aftertaste, was a result of over-extraction, since it can feel sorta similar to bitterness. With that, it seemed to make sense to grind coarser, which obviously didn't help.

In the end, going significantly finer brought a much fuller and sweeter extraction, minimizing the astringency without increasing bitterness at all.

A caveat, of course, astringency can indeed come from over-extraction, so this isn't a guarantee. If you're already coarse, try finer. But if you're grinding super fine, the opposite might go for you/those beans.

TL;DR: if you are having issues with astringency, it might be intuitive to go for a lighter extraction with a coarser grind, but try going finer for richer flavor instead.

Pre-registered for Boost since it was my go-to Reddit app. It released and auto-downloaded today, and I don't even feel like opening it after coming to like Connect so much.

Title basically says it. Connect offers all of the functions I'd chosen Boost for on Reddit, and there are pretty few bugs for me. Nice job folks.

    RAM for Lenovo P15

Hey folks, and many apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. Upgrading the RAM on my laptop will be my first ever PC parts purchase and upgrade of any kind, and I have no idea what I'm doing after looking through parts options. I am wondering how I can know if a given RAM stick will fit in and work with the P15, and if anyone has any options on where I should buy it from. Thanks so much in advance and sorry for such a rookie question.

First-timer with no knowledge whatsoever: How do I know what RAM to get for my computer?

I have a Lenovo P15 Gen1 laptop with easily accessible ram slots. I have never purchased parts for a PC or done any upgrades myself. I think I understand the process well enough, but I'm lost in all the RAM types and model numbers. How can I tell which sticks will fit and work with the P15, and where's the best spot to order them in the US? Thanks for any help with such a basic question.
