Asus just apologized for its outrageous repair costs and RMA process
  • I haven’t trusted Asus as a brand for several years already, nice reminder to keep on avoiding any of their products for the foreseeable future.

I am still sad that EVGA stopped producing Nvidia GPus as they were my go to for a long time.

  • 4 months durability for an $800 phone!
  • Searching in google

why do phones have glass backs And all the top results explain why in a single sentence: wireless charging.

You can’t have wireless charging with metal backplates, hence the glass, which is often not your ordinary glass but things like gorilla glass which is much harder to crack.

I know it still sucks; I have an iPhone 12 that was still in great condition after 4yrs, never used a case on it; but one day at the pool of my son recording a video and dropping it just right, cracked the back. I just stuck a dbrand sticker onto the back to hold the glass in place and it continues to work without issue!

  • Arrowhead CEO says Helldivers 2 balancing patches have 'gone too far' recently: 'It feels like every time someone finds something fun, the fun is removed'
  • Credit grinding is only possible on high level missions, which are easier done with the unbalanced weapons. Even then on average you will extract with 5-10 credits per mission, which makes the 1000 point buy-in take ~150 missions to complete, ranging from 25-40min per mission.

So you estimate someone playing an average of 30min per mission * 150 missions = 75hrs of play time (if you’re lucky to survive and extract each mission that is).

Or someone can pay $10 and instantly have access to those clearly over powered weapons.

This is by definition a setup of micro transactions, which is weighted to put players who don’t no life the game to feel like they have to keep buying credits to get usable gear.

  • Tarkov CEO raises concerns about potential Tarkov source code in Arena Breakout: Infinite
  • They had such a great opportunity to come in at a bad time for Tarkov and take a good chunk of the player base. But yet again we see that companies simply rush to the release without any effort to develop something worthwhile and then wonder why it flops.

Same shit has been happening with Destiny for years; Bungie has been flopping around and fucking up release after release, but the only competition that had a chance (Anthem), ignored their developers and launched an unfinished game that could’ve been really great, promptly killing it off when it flopped.

  • Self-hosted Jellyfin CPU or GPU for 4K HDR transcoding?
  • thanks for the tips! I am running a Ryzen 9 5950X, so it definitely needs a standalone GPU. I am going to be getting a 1070 off the kids’ computer once I upgrade them later this year, so I think I’ll just stick that into it.

Would really like to get the seamless transcoding to work so the whole family can use it without hiccups.

  • Self-hosted Jellyfin CPU or GPU for 4K HDR transcoding?
  • Very much agree on all these points; I just wish I could get the transcoding to actually work.

I’ve been running Jellyfin in a container and giving it access to an old GTX970 but it just refuses to do anything with it.

  • I'm doing my part
  • And forcing an account on PC players that bought it through steam, which has no need for their servers to collect even more data.

A simple google search shows Sony’s inability to keep any of their user data secure, so it only adds yet another avenue of your PII to be leaked and abused by third parties.

  • Community Filter List/Edit

Currently there is a filter list under settings that shows keyword filters, but I have not been able to find any way to view and edit community/instance filters that have been created by blocking a community or instance.

[Feature Request] Native Video Player for Video/Gifs

I think Avelon has become one of the best Lemmy apps for iOS, but there is one issue that is preventing me from buying into Pro and making it my default: inline video only for video and gifs.

This is such a huge drawback to otherwise great app; the native player has simple, intuitive and familiar controls; allowing users to switch to horizontal, mute, pause, rewind/forward, etc.

Is support for the native player disabled intentionally or is this something that is in the works?
