  • As a former pizza delivery driver - tipping. Poor folks would dig through the cushions to make sure I got a handful of quarters for a tip, usually coming out to $2-3 (back in 2006) whereas rich people would round up the receipt to the nearest dollar or two, almost never more.

  • I think maybe you're right with Asian countries. The soybean is so versatile - soy milk, tofu, edamame, bean sprouts are four regularly used staples from the same crop. Then you've got the various uses for mung beans and red beans. So the same crop can be utilized for a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.

    Lots of world cuisine have a legume staple - Indian, Ethiopian, Mediterranean, Latin American - but they tend to be a savory legume puree, whereas Asian cuisine expands the realm of use for the simple bean

  • Instead of UO, I know OSU has a good civil engineering program, especially because it requires an internship, usually for a local city, so you get experience and name recognition when hiring time rolls around. Going rate to share living space is around $1k/person/month

  • House prices haven't meaningfully gone down in 15 years and that was a monumental crisis when it happened then. I was just entering the workforce and had no capital to take advantage of the only reasonable house prices I've seen in my lifetime back in 2010. Hopefully those who have been waiting for prices to dip will be ready to pounce if prices do actually come down.
