A new smartphone again? Rethink unhealthy culture of frequent upgrades
  • No, it's just that on Lemmy anything that isn't open source or self hosted is basically the devil.

Google Pixels are great phones, but they come loaded with Google Services and this is what this commenter complains about.

  • A new smartphone again? Rethink unhealthy culture of frequent upgrades
  • I was considering that, seems unlikely to me, though.

  • It's honorable that you struggle through 2013 Android, but using an internet enabled device that hasn't received security updates in at least 7 years is a horrible idea.

Upgrade to a Fairphone at least, so you can keep replacing parts while also maintaining a base level of security.

  • Make it make sense
  • Most people that are a little better off than the average person mostly only buy one Yacht and one Spacecraft.

So the comparison doesn't make sense as this is a one time purchase and not something you buy every day (upkeep a factor though).

Then again, you probably aren't the sharpest tool in the shed if you are the type of person who regularly pays good money for a piece of vegetable between two slices of bread.

On the other hand, that applies to all people who use Twitter to cry into the void...

  • I hate the political angle much more - what does Erdogan have to do with this and why does he need to be mentioned in a caving incident?

Can't people just stop inserting their stupid politics into every god damn thread?

  • You mean "body"? Seems to work fine.

  • Lemmy probably feels like Reddit when it first started, all warm cuddly and friendly to newcomers eager to discuss and collaborate around central topics.
  • Definitely, you can also see that on certain communities, there are very strong opinions which don't allow for discussion.
Say anything that goes against the grain and you will be shunned immediately.

Also - not that that is always a bad thing but Lemmy is extremely left leaning and you just can't discuss certain topics here at all.

(Guns are always bad / Cars should all be banned and traded for bicycles / traveling by plane is bad and you should feel horrible for destroying the environment..)

What I enjoyed about early reddit was the tech/nerd focused community that did not try to push their political opinion into every thread.
Basically the worst part of reddit is already here, just that the echo chambers are smaller for now.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about it.

This is such an unexpected nostalgia trip.

  • Trying is for losers.
  • No, must be malicious intent and them showing off their superiority, because on here (just like on reddit) people are mostly imbeciles that can only see in black and white.

  • So how’s everyone here liking Pikmin 4 so far?
  • It's my first Pikmin that I really gave a proper go.

So far I don't understand how you can be a diehard Pikmin fan.
To me, all it has got is great animations and graphics, but the gameplay is mind numbingly easy and lacks variety, even after 2 hours.

I believe it is a great kids game with it's style and easy to pick up gameplay, but it doesn't hold my attention for long.

Definitely will be going back to Zelda or Persona 5 where it felt effortless to put 150 hours into between the both of them so far.

  • Truth.
  • Totally true, I always thought that would be the case but there really are studies that confirm this.
