Trump backs out of debate as camp says it's 'inappropriate to schedule things with Harris'
  • Everybody also said this about the Biden/Trump debate, and that's ultimately what made Biden bow out. Personally, I'm a bit apprehensive about how Harris would do against Trump: she didn't fare very well in the democratic primaries, and she hasn't had a lot of practice since.

I'm not on the fence, but some who are might want to see how Harris holds up to a strong authority figure (Trump isn't the only asshole on the global political stage, remember)

  • Layoff season
  • From my experience, this is not the case. Layoffs in the US (especially those in tech) are quite secret and quite sudden, which means the decision of whom to lay off is typically done at a sufficiently high level where they're generally clueless about individual performance.

  • New York City announces lawsuit against bus companies sending migrants to city, seeks $708 million
  • There's a comment above about this: I'm sure New York City (or any other city, really) would love to sue Abbot. But suing a state would be much harder, and probably much lengthier. If there's even the threat of a lawsuit, most bus companies would at least think twice about accepting the job.

  • Why? Are we not doing enough?
  • I actually found that I really like the "hot" scrolling so much better. On Reddit, everything I came across had ~hundreds of comments and everything was multiple hours old. I didn't feel like I could contribute at all. But here... it feels a lot smaller, and most of the "hot" posts are not rubbish, so I feel like I can actually contribute!

  • Man, 89, cut neighbours' hedges as they 'hadn't bothered', then thanks himself in newspaper
  • Love me some British shrub politics. The only socially respectable response for someone invading your property is a bit of tutting whenever they're nearby.

Also the "public right-of-way" in this country is incredible.

  • ‘The Marvels’ Meltdown: Disney MCU Posts Lowest B.O. Opening Ever At $47M — What Went Wrong
  • I used to love all the Marvel movies. and then I started watching one film and couldn't tell if I'd seen it already and didn't want to watch it if I hadn't... and then realised they're basically just identical stories player by different characters.

no reason to hit up the opening weekend if you're just going to watch a rerun.

  • Congresswoman Informs Marjorie Taylor Greene, ‘Robert E. Lee Was Not Actually One of the Founding Fathers’
  • The article title is correct, it just wasn't as much of a burn as you'd like. The calling out did happen, but was just a bit misplaced since Greene didn't explicitly make the offending statement.

Also Greene is dumb and I'm sure is still confused about what a founding father is.

  • Does Google Inserting Deceptively Placed Ads in the Play Store seem icky to anyone else?
  • I used to think the same thing: first three results or so are always ads, so just ignore. And then recently they've changed to be 90% ads even after the initial few. It's hard to find something that someone hasn't paid to display :(

  • Fahrenheit vs. Celsius vs. Kelvin
  • Not using metric is so much more fun:

    • water freezes at 32, boils at 212
    • 16 cups in 1 gallon (both standard units of measurement)
    • 1 (US) cup of water is 8 (US) oz
    • 1 (US) cup of water is 14.4375in^3

Makes your maths so much more exciting!!
