  • Aaaaand there it is, why they delisted the old games, they want us to buy the new version instead!

  • It's almost the week-end, what are you guys going to play?
  • I have gotten back into non-patiently playing Helldivers, but I think I'll spend the weekend playing Hex of Steel, CtA:Gates of Hell and Dawn of War:Soulstorm with thr Unification mod, same as I've been doing all week.

Well that, and watching the 24h of Le Mans race, this saturday!

  • Do you prefer Reddit or Lemmy?
  • Same for me. There are some interests I have (mostly niche games) that just don't have the population to have any sort of traction here. I don't comment or vote there anymore, and I'm only still logged in on my main PCs because I didn't bother logging out. Deleted all my old comments and posts.

  • Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is the next open-world racer that seems destined for live service Hell
  • I played a lot of the old TDU and the Nacon WRC Games. Long story short, the way they handled Generations, that was supposed to be their last hurrah with the franchise, was so bad, that I completely gave up hope on Solar Crown being good. And I've been having the live service hell feelings about it for a while too.

  • Homeworld 3 Review - MandaloreGaming - Piped
  • I really wanted to have hope but I knew in the back of my mind to not trust Gearbox.

  • What's your thoughts on Sony pushing PSN down on PC gamers' throats?
  • Same. I don't even give a shit about them announcing Bloorborne or Gran Turismo on PC anymore. I'll just wait for PS4 emulation to get better and play that instead.

  • Google Search’s “udm=14” trick lets you kill AI search for good
  • Until Google realizes normal.people would rather use this than take part in their AI search, and block usage of it outside of businesses.

  • Great warrior 🪖
  • This one is even better! Lmao

  • XDefiant: In-Game Purchase Philosophy
  • Was anyone even still inetested in this? All hype has died and it's still a Ubishit product.

  • What drew you to the high seas?
  • Growing up in a 3rd world country. When my father gave me a PS2 it was hacked to play pirated games. We also burned CDs on our PC before that.

  • Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of May 12th
  • Bought it on sale earlier this year alongside Palworld and Helldivers 2. You might notice why I still haven't started it.

  • Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of May 12th
  • I had a sudden urge to look into TERA Online private servers, downloaded 100GB of custom game clients... And that somehow resulted in me getting back into playing Grim Dawn. This time I want to play it enough to really learn it and actually finish the game.

  • Why Mint and Ubuntu?
  • They're simple to get into for anyone with an introductory interest in Linux, although I haven't liked Ubuntu in ages. My Mint setup took a bit of effort but it does game pretty well. Fedora could be a good recommendation too, I liked that when I tried it out. There's some gaming focused distros like Bazzite or Nobara, but I feel like I can get a "normal" distro working to a similar state for games, and I don't have to hope that a small team doesn't fold and my distro loses updates support.

I'm trying out OpenSUSE Tumbleweed this week, wanna see if it's a good alternative to Fedora.

I don't dare try Arch yet, and thus I also wouldn't recommend it to any new user.

  • Recompilation: An Incredible New Way to Keep N64 Games Alive
  • No no no no stop talking about it, quick before the Nintendo lawyers show up!!

  • Ok бuddy
  • I mean even without that slip up the rest of the message still gives them away. Who the fuck would say that without being a vatnik shill.

  • Pirating guitar and bass tabs?
  • The golden days of Ultimate-Guitar uaer submitted tabs and pirated Guitar Pro 5 (which my guitar teacher gave to me on a burned CD) Good times.

  • STEAM starting to issue refunds for players over the 2h playtime limit due to PSN on Helldivers 2
  • Open a ticket with support where an actual human will read it. The automated refund tool will always deny it.

  • So what's changed Microsoft?
  • Dunno, but graphics drivers stopped working again! Go reinstall them!

  • Helldivers 2 Steam page reviews are now "Mostly negative" with "mixed" overall (old reviews are switching too)
  • I feel bad for Arrowhead. Sony fucked them over and it's not going to take any of the backlash, they will.

  • I've created the 6 Training mission AC builds
ac-companion.app AC Companion - Share your emblems, builds, and AC Data

AC Companion is a web application that allows you to share your Armorred Core 6 emblems, mechs, builds, and loadouts with other players.

AC Companion - Share your emblems, builds, and AC Data

Hey guys. I was a bit salty that the game does not give us the builds of the tutorial mission ACs, so I finally decided to get back in there, screenshot them all and remake them so I could share the schematics with people. Uploaded them all to the ac-companion website for archival and sharing, but here's the 6 share codes if you just want to copypaste them: DNN3QZG15HJP QK1XW2JBNZUJ GTYW7FLHXJYA SJ4ENJRR6Q02 2NTX2DZCEE8J QYBDGLAQU8XG

Fair warning, since we can't really tell what the internals on them are (and some of them are a bit too basic/bad) I had to pick generators for them myself. And they all have the Abbot FCS since it's the most general use one. But I did attempt to correctly match all color schemes and loadouts, if you wanted to use them as base for your own ACs!

Planning a pedalboard on a budget!

Good day guitar players of Lemmy, I'm planning a pedalboard for when I can afford them, to color my playing after years of using a shitty Zoom multi-FX pedal. I want to actually use "proper" separate pedals for easier dialing in of tones and being able to actually change the order of the effects. Now, I'm saying "budget" and I REALLY do mean budget. Where I live, anything involving guitars is insanely expensive. What you might think is a cheap easy to get pedal like a Boss effect, costs $200 or more down here. So I've been looking around for the true budget choices that still sound competent. I currently play an Ibanez through a Roland Cube 30 amp.

With that out of the way, let's begin: I want to play doom metal and adjacent heavy styles of music. A super clean tone is not too important to me, neither are stacking of ambient pedals and delays. I like versatility, but I want to dial in my own tone that I can use for my favored music. I also want to keep the board small in pedal count, I was planning on 5 max, but I might need a couple more slots, if anything to fit in a tuner pedal. -First, I need a good fuzz pedal. I have been looking around, and I really can't find a fuzz I like more than the DOD Carcosa. Or anything that sounds quite like it at a cheaper price range, so that's probably what I'm going to go for, and also will be the most expensive pedal on the board. The only alternative I'm willing to consider, is a big muff clone of some sort. Also I hate the Hyper Fuzz box of bees sound. -Second, a distortion pedal. I'm pretty set on getting a RAT type pedal, but again since even the ProCo is expensive here, I'm going for an alternative. Currently at the top of the list is the Joyo Splinter, as it can sound pretty much exactly like a Fat Rat (at least in video reviews it does). Alternative consideration is a Boss DS-1 style pedal, but I'm pretty sure i want a Ratty sound. -Third, is the first pedal I am not 100% sure of. I love the sound of Orange amps. I run my stuff through a simple Roland Cube amp, that can emulate several other things, but not an Orange. So in the interest of doing that but also not buying another amp, I want an amp-in-a-box pedal. The Joyo Oxford Sound is exactly that. The idea is to dial it in for a very characteristic Orange crunch sound, and then push it with the previous two. might turn it completely off for clean sections. -Fourth in the path, is some sort of modulation pedal. In the interest of versatility, I'm going for a multi-mod. Can't really decide if I want to stick with a chorus, phaser, flanger or tremolo, so I want all of them in one. Candidates for this are the Behringer FX600, Caline Multimod or similars. -Fifth in the ideal signal chain now, is my simple ambience. A singular Delay/Reverb pedal would be ideal. Currently between the Caline Ragnarok and the Sonicake Levitate. Taking suggestions of other options here. Being able to toggle each individual effect is important, tap tempo is nice but not necessary.

But, there are other effects I consider. Like I mentioned before, a tuner pedal is kind of necessary, and can double as a mute button after my distortions. -An overdrive pedal. I don't feel like it is necessary, but everyone and their mother says they have or need one, so I have to consider it. Would potentially substitute or push into the Orange amp simulation. If I have to use one, I think I like the Klon style pedals, and there's tons of cheap clones of that around. -A boost pedal. But not necessarily a straight flat boost. As a doom guitar wannabe, of course one of my idols is Tony Iommi, and his tone used a treble booster into a Laney amp. My other guitar hero, with a searing and captivating lead tone, is Rory Gallagher, who ran a treble booster into a Vox amp. As I understand, it's what made both of their tones so wide and clear, with aggressive mids and highs for leads. But it is also an effect that was used to solve a very specific problem: old tube amps darkened when they were pushed too hard and loud. Modern amps, solid state amps or amp simulations don't necessarily suffer from that. Or I could just set up a bright sounding low gain overdrive to keep always on for a similar effect. This is the one I'm least sure about. Also it might require me to apply a noise gate at the end, increasing the total pedals on the chain not by 1 but by 2!

On a final note, I also might want to learn bass at some point. And bass players' #1 effect is compression. So I might have to get one of those someday too. Wouldn't use it on guitar, as it does the opposite of what I want.

Either way, after this whole wall of text, I thank anyone who read all of it. What advice can you give me? Both on pedal choice or usage? Do you think it is possible to sound something in the middle of doom metal and bright blues leads? On a budget? That's what I want to know.

    Doom Metal @lemmy.world Varyag @lemm.ee
I want to start PLAYING Doom Metal

Hey doomers. I've recently got back to playing guitar, after many years of not doing so. I used to play mostly classic rock and stuff like Metallica. Now, since then I've gotten bit by the bug of doom. Sabbath, Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Sleep, the classics of the genre and more. And now, I want to make my own sound. My current guitar is an Ibanez Gio with a Floyd Rose bridge, and I can't really bother with setting it up anymore. I'm going to buy a new guitar with a fixed bridge, potentially another Ibanez or an LTD Tele as I like their feel. I can't really choose a tuning to stick with, however. I'm between D standard, C# standard or C standard, and their respective drop tunings. Which ones do you guys use? I'm thinking of using 10-54 strings, skinny top heavy bottom, but I might go 11-60.

Apart from that, I'm planning a budget pedalboard, as things are expensive in my part of the world. Current plan is: Joyo Splinter for a Rat sound, DOD Carcosa for that sweet fuzz, Joyo Oxford for that Orange sound, Caline Multimod for modulations, and Caline Ragnarok for Delay/Reverb. Any more recommendations or suggestions?
