Standard notes: what about don’t put all your eggs in one basket rule?
  • If they treat it the way they do with Simplelogin, then you can choose to keep your accounts separate. Just the option to log in via your Proton account will be a future option if they end up including standard notes as a premium feature.

  • New single planet fantasy game from Hello Games
  • NMS is my Zen game. I have over 500 hours in it just in the last two years. I know the game is not for everybody. I have friends who don't understand why I hop through the galaxies, explore systems, hunt for ships, play the expeditions, and build base after base after base, even though so much can feel repetitive for some. But for me, it became my new Minecraft - "one more brick". I love the expansive feel of it, and find the isolation relaxing. If i want to see others i can hop over to the Anomaly or hit the community build areas. I cannot wait to see what Hello Games has come up with.

  • Do you still write notes with pen and paper?
  • Seconded on the respect comment. It may not be fair, but I think people using their laptops in meetings are distracted by the myriad notifications constantly bombarding us, checking email, or otherwise not staying engaged. Harder to be present when your device keeps clamoring for your attention.

  • Do you still write notes with pen and paper?
  • Depends on the situation, but yes, I still keep notes with a mechanical pencil and an A5 spiral graphing paper notebook. I do use an electronic notebook (Joplin) for some things, especially if what I am working on will end up in a document or if I need to include screenshots, links, or other embedded items, but for general notes, paper. And, there are places I go that do not allow technology, so having the smaller notepad has come in very handy.

  • How's your week going?
  • Week is going OK, busy like everyone else, but some lights at the end of some tunnels. Going to build a Docker instance on the home server this weekend to play with self hosted Beeper. Very hot where I am but also hoping to get some outside time anyway.

  • Are there any good VR games yet?
  • Like others mentioned, Subnautica, No Man's Sky, and Skyrim are fun in VR, but not made for it. No Man's Sky, though, almost feels like it was. Also Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is really good in VR (and spooky). For "VR-First" games, obviously Beat Saber, but also found Thrill of the Fight (Boxing) fun and a great workout. On PC/Steam, many of the Steam Home places are very cool.

  • Ex-Facebook Users, What Do You Use Now?
  • I also added birthdays to the contacts on my phone. I found an Android app called Birday that reminds me when someone's birthday is based on the dates in my contacts. Birday and the clock are the only two widgets on my homescreen. People seem to like that I reach out with a text or phone call to talk to them on their birthday over the FB "click to send happy birthday" thing (which is still better than forgetting, to be fair).

  • Ex-Facebook Users, What Do You Use Now?
  • Same as you. SMS and phone for most, email and phone for my older relatives. Lemmy and Mastodon for news and information. I have gotten some friends and coworkers to use Signal Messenger, but really, I am kind of done trying to convince people to change their habits. I do feel left out of some conversations that I know happen on Facebook and Apple iMessage, but not really worth "the extras" of having those accounts.
