US Abrams tanks failing in Ukraine as Russia mocks them as ‘empty tin cans’
  • The classified natoid armour was removed from frontal aspects that are designed to defeat APFSDS rounds in tank vs tank combat. Meanwhile, Russian drones are hitting spots that never had that armour in the first place by going for weakspots like the roof or the poorly protected ammo compartment at the back of the turret.

Even if these tanks were rolling around with their original armour, it wouldn't have saved any of the tanks that have been defeated so far. peltier-laugh

  • It's noteworthy they've called this on a Scottish school holiday. It indicates they're worried about a Labour resurgence in Scotland taking seats from the currently weak Scottish National Party (known on hexbear for attempting things like the Gender Reform Bill)

  • UK to introduce new offence of causing death or injury by dangerous cycling
  • Not too terrible?

UK has been changing laws in the past few years so that bikes must be fully considered legitimate traffic by other drivers. It makes sense to increase the expectations on cyclists to actually act and have the same responsibilities as traffic too, rather than a weird hybrid. All of this is in lieu of just creating decent cycle infrastructure, which the UK is no longer capable of doing since it's a developing nation larping as an imperial power.

  • Visceral dislike is how I'd describe it too.

In order to lie the way they do, they need to know the truth, and yet materially gain from lying. They are demonic manifestations of evil untruth. They are not capable of redemption, their entire existence is manipulation for gain. I will never advocate for mercy for the stenographers.

  • Do the Russians actually intend to take Kharkov? Maybe. Maybe not. They've been bombing thermpower plants to encourage the population to leave the city, which suggests at a minimum that the Russians predict the fighting will cause massive damage to the residential areas of the city. It's hard to say whether they want to take it, or are simply leveraging it's potential to tie up Ukrainian troops. Either way, Ukraine will redeploy troops from Donbas to Kharkov, which means Donbas will fall within a couple of months.

Ukraine has essentially lost all capability to fight on the battlefield. Russia is now at peak performance in production and targeting times. Russia has gone from obsessing over destroying key enemy systems (artillery, anti-air, tanks) to casually flinging tons of cheap precision ordnance at conscripts.

The mounting number of Ukrainian casualties is actually nauseating, and the only thing the Ukrainians are now winning for their blood is a harsher peace deal.

  • I once helped out with an effort to drive our cities old firetrucks all the way to Gaza.

Israel impounded them for months, and they saw a few months of service before being targeted by an Israeli airstrike. That journey and talking to the firefighters making the journey with their old vehicles was what really flipped me to being a communist. British firefighters already mistrust the army, since the army are the on call scabs. It's not a big leap to go from "the army enforces the rule of capital domestically" to "the army enforces the rule of capital internationally"

That trip was like my own little "motorcycle diaries".

  • Does anyone get the feeling that we're going to see a huge censoring of the internet under the guise of "preventing violent extremism"?
  • I think it will be coming hard and fast.

If you don't move, you don't notice your chains. Being censored directly on reddit was extremely radicalizing for a lot of people here. Once you've noticed the chains, it's almost impossible to unsee them. Once you've had physical violence committed against you at a peaceful protest, you can't forget just how thin the veneer of civility is. They're creating an entire generation of people like us by actively censoring and over reacting. The illusion is shattered permanently for more people every day.

  • The general vibe of news and economics recently has me worried.

I always thought that my life would pass without a revolution in the "international community". Now I'm not so sure. If things keep getting worse for western sphere countries at the same rate, as now, and China rises at the same rate as now, intense violence could kick off within a couple of decades. Openly bloody and fascist reaction in the crumbling of the old order. I didn't expect the mask of "freedom and democracy" to drop as fast as it has, combined with the open acknowledgements that China is surpassing us.

Our century of humiliation will be us humiliating ourselves and I feel like it might be coming fast.

I honestly thought I might get through it all without living through the spicy times.
