Microsoft copilot going full Sydney because it can't not use emojis
  • Ah, sweet, manmade horrors beyond my comprehension.

Thank you Lera Lynn for this werewolf gf banger, I will force everyone to listen to it forever. !rosa-salute

linux gamers, what distro do you use?
  • Manjaro here. It's essentially Arch with a pleasant installer, reasonable defaults, and a nice desktop theme. I recently had to switch from the KDE build to the Gnome build because KDE does NOT seem to get along with Nvidia GPU drivers right now. Now it's butter. Use Lutris to manage your windows games in their own little sandboxes, 9/10 games you'd swear they're native software. Some actually run better under linux than under Windows 11. Cities Skylines 2 was the most dramatic example. Like 20 extra fps.

Recommendations for Free VPN with P2P on Fedora based install
  • There are effectively zero commercial VPN services that will permit P2P traffic on their free servers, because they would be instantly swamped if they did. The few that do permit it for free, you have to ask yourself how they're paying for that bandwidth.

  • Moon is weird again
  • Oh that's not the moon, that's Yonus, The Infinite Architect. Easy mistake to make.

  • So this pic is AI generated, right?
  • It's AI yeah. Look at all the tech on the table in the middle, it all just dissolves into sludge. Also, it's hard to articulate, but there's something about the way current image generation models generate transparent materials, such as that squat little water bottle in the foreground, that always jumps out to me. I suspect because it's primarily learned what drink container should look like from overlit advertisements.

  • How do you guys cope with the fact that the world isn't getting any better?
  • Drugs, BDSM, and the smug satisfaction that I was always right.

  • Black Mesa: The 16 Year Project to Remake Half-Life | Noclip Documentary
  • It's better than Half Life: Alyx.

No one can tell me I'm wrong, because no one who posts here can afford to play Half Life: Alyx, including me.

  • Pirate Site Blocking Demands Intensify in the US
  • Ha, no, we don't have the kind of political system which would make such small parties useful. Anyone who isn't in one of the big two is essentially disenfranchised.

  • It took me way too long but I'm finally done with Spotify for good
  • On Android I highly recommend Retro Music, it's free and open source, available on the FDroid store. It's fast, has a great interface, and supports ~gapless flac playback~

  • In the suburbs of my major US city, a certain venue puts on a nazi metal fest every year. What can I do about it?
  • If your city or region has an active antifascist group, inform them. My hometown used to have regular nazi gatherings, now they've all been doxxed and had their lives ruined. They are ruthlessly effective.

  • I want to build a HTPC that I can 'download' on for <$150
  • Lots of people have already recommended secondhand compact PCs, like the kind most public libraries use to provide public computer access. As an alternative, if those are hard to come by in your area, I would recommend finding an old Lenovo Thinkpad. Even thinkpads as much as 10 years old remain very serviceable, significantly more powerful than most single-board project computers, and their power supplies only draw about 65 watts maximum, much less than the average desktop power supply. I have a few I've collected, and one sits under my router permanently as my personal server. In fact, I'm sending this message from one right now!

  • When your DIV Tim Hortons robbery gets foiled even before it begins.
  • So that's like. That's the receiver from some dinky varmint rifle, and I'm just guessing like a homemade cast aluminum frame? Am I understanding this correctly? Honestly got to respect the effort.

  • Engels, pay my rent
  • The Marx household was the original punk house.

  • Is it just me or did the sites certificate expire?
  • Looks good now. Try clearing cache if the issue persists.

  • Spotify Lays Off 1,500 as Revenues Climb
gizmodo.com Spotify Lays Off 1,500 as Revenues Climb

Spotify suddenly started making a profit in the past few months, but CEO Daniel Ek said "being lean is... a necessity."

Spotify Lays Off 1,500 as Revenues Climb

I've seen this exact headline about over a dozen tech companies in the last few months, particularly in the games industry. How do we make sense of it? I am not accustomed to seeing companies that are doing well, as they all claim to be, discharging swathes of their labor force.

Please recommend me good leftist news outlets in English.

Newspapers, blogs, periodicals, whatever you like as long as it's not video, podcasts, or posts. Ideally, with an RSS feed, but beggars can't be choosers.

Can anyone recommend a good companion book to Capital?

I'm recommitting myself to reading The Big One. I've known a number of comrades who had companion guide books to the works of Marx and Engels, to help interpret and contextualize their body of works. Have any of you read such a book that can help me navigate these essays?
