    postmarketOS needs your help!
  • I love Open Collective and prefer it over any alternative. I will still try to support the individuals who use Liberapay but really like the transparancy of OC for supporting projects.

  • Is it time to reopen the subreddit?
  • I for one ditched Reddit long ago and am never going back. Not for any project. If they want to have a sub reddit then fine but they better have FOSS options ike Lemmy as well.

  • Error When trying to Update Pinephone

I tried to update my Pinephone CE using "sudo apk upgrade -a" and received the error

"Not continuing due to stale/unavailable repositories. Use --force-missing-repositories to continue"

I am on 23.12 with Phosh. I remember hearing that the Pinephone may be getting dropped from main to community so I wasn't sure if this was related to that or something different. Is it safe to use the command it suggests ? I figured I would ask before blindly doing it.

    Adding systemd to postmarketOS
  • The fact that PostmarketOS used anything other than SystemD was a selling point for me. That beign said it seems like it will be optional so at that point I see little reason to be angry.

  • Error When Booting GNUinos

I just tried installing Gnuinos and after finishing on first bootup this is what I get. I have tried on both Runit and SysVinit so I don’t think it’s do do with init issues. Any ideas on what the issue is and how to fix ? This system works fine with Trisquel so I know it’s libre friendly.

  • Phone Recommendation for Canada

I would love to use PostmarketOS as my daily driver but my Pinephone CE isn't really giving me the battery life I need to make it happen. I am looking at what phones I can get my hands on in Canada that would be better suited. So far the OnePlus 6T seems to be my best option. I can't get the Shift6mq or the Poco F1 shipped here. Any suggestions if battery life is my main need ? I take my phone off the charger at 11am and don't get home until close to midnight with no way to charge while at work.

  • The PineTab-V gets community-supported software build
  • While i'm not a huage fan of KDE, as i'd prefer Phosh, this is still great news. Seriously considering pulling the trigger on a PineTab-V although i'll probably give this a bit of time to mature.

  • Support for RISC-V PineTab 2?

Obviously things can change over time but does anybody know if there is currently any planned support for the RISC-V version of the PineTab 2 for PostmarketOS ? Would a RISC-V device even work with PostmarketOS ?

Linux System Store in Africa; Russia; or Latin America ?

I had a person ask me the other day if I knew of any stores that sell hardware with Linux preinstalled in Africa; Latin America or Russia and I couldn't think of any. I know plenty in Europe; U.S.A. and Canada but none for those places. Do any of you know of any ? They didn't mean stores that will ship there but stores that are based there.

    VPN For PostmarketOS

Are there any VPN's that work on PostmarketOS ? I would be using on the Pinephone CE; Pinebook Pro and Rock Pro 64. I usually use Proton VPN or Mullvad but i'm not overly picky.

    Dasharo Update Question

I recently received my MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 motherboard from Dasharo. It came with version 1.0 which from what I understand has a different update process than later versions. Am I correct in understanding that I need to open a Terminal and type in "flashrom -p internal -w [path] --ifd -i bios" substituting the path bit there with the actual path to the file I downloaded ? Figured I would ask first before diving in.

Missing a Few Programs on Pinebook Pro

I have recently got PostmarketOS setup on my Pinebook pro and am enjoying it. I am missing a few programs from my desktop though and was wondering if there is a way to get them on PostmarketOS. They are Plank and Psensor. If Plank is a no go is there a way to adjust Gnome Dash to always be visible ?

    FOSS Alternative to PastPerfect

Can anybody reccomend a FOSS replacement for the museum software PastPerfect ? Needs to be available for Windows 10. I was able to find CollectiveAccess and CollectionSpace but neither seem very easy to get setup. β€œCollectiveAccess” for instance needs to be built from source. This museum has novices at best when it comes to tech.

Issues Installing PMOS Onto Nexus 5

I'm trying to install PostmarketOS onto my Nexus 5 but when I type "pmbootstrap init" into my terminal I get "command not found". It is installed through the AUR on my Garuda system. When I type "pmbootstrap --version" I get back "1.42.0" so it seems to be installed and detected. Any ideas ?

    Question Regarding Exchanges Wanting Info

I have been interested in getting into small amounts of Bitcoin for a while now and finally decided to begin today. Looking at exchanges I was going to settle on Coinbase but so far they want my phone number; drivers license info; address; and who knows what else if I get past that. Is this normal ? I feel like it's going to want to a DNA swab next and I haven't even gotten to make a single trade yet. I'm in Canada if that matters.
