I’ve met some really good people through dating apps but it really is a numbers game. I’d say that on average out of 100 matches I only have 4-5 conversations that last longer than a few days before one of loses interest and stops replying. It can be pretty disheartening to churn through so many people but from my experience it pays to be picky. I’ve only ever been on 5 dates through dating apps but they all turned into relationships because I didn’t waste my time with anyone I didn’t feel a mutual connection with.
Stick with it and eventually you’ll find someone, just gotta be patient. Also it depends on where you are but I’ve found bumble to be the best as the girls on there are usually much more serious
I bounced off of other paradox games pretty quickly but this one grabbed me immediately. Like others have said, it’s a materialism simulator where your internal politics actually matter and are directly affected by how you play. It’s also a lot of microing supply and demand of various resources with local and global economies interacting. It’s less plotting to assassinate a rival leader and more plotting to tank their economy by becoming the biggest exporter of steel. There are a lot of systems going on but for me it felt really intuitive just from a basic understanding of material drivers of politics and economics
going back to clear some starter quests after you hit endgame and get bored
wearing a mask because you care about the health and well being of others
wearing a mask because of social anxiety and neurotic self esteem issues
You’d think more “leftists” would at least do it for the latter reason, I love not showing my face in public
I do the same, I prefer to listen to my own music/podcasts or just appreciate the silence. I played 98% of disco elysium on my deck with the sound off entirely and don’t feel like I missed anything. I tend to hyper focus and block out sound when I’m fully engaged with something anyway, silence helps me focus more easily.
I learned my gf’s last name from hotel staff calling her “Obana san” this morning, stifling a giggle and not just saying “Obama” over and over was quite the herculean feat
Biden in the conservatory with the lead pipe but instead of Mr Boddy it’s the social murder of thousands
I tried doing that and the fuckers sent my account to a collections agency that hounded me nonstop for months and damaged my credit score. All over like $40 they refused to drop because my written cancellation was submitted by my ex to cancel both of our memberships rather than me personally submitting it
Excellent post, I had not put the pieces together to see that shared underlying belief that neatly explains the overlap between granola types and rabid conservatives. It perfectly demonstrates how deeply reactionary and individualistic the “hippie” movement is at its core despite all of the surface level posturing to pretend otherwise.
I used to wonder what the hell happened to make the “progressive” free love generation 180 into a bunch of miserable reactionaries but it seems that it wasn’t much of a pivot after all. A little strategic dismantling of any actually effective organizing (and assassination of key leaders) was all it took to let people lapse back into a comfortable, self serving position that upholds their class interests while still being nominally progressive.
Oh hell yeah buddy, I just got back from climbing a couple mountains today! Get out there and enjoy nature, hopefully there’s still something worth coming back to after
Bro your sign value? Baudrillard can be incoherent rambling to a degree but his early stuff at least is pretty on point at analyzing some whacky phenomena that arose well after Marx
I actually met a pasty 6’+ trans woman there and she had very positive impressions of the country, of course ymmv. The heat might be more of in issue in Japan than Mexico though, 90+ with high humidity well into September in Tokyo while Mexico City was low 80s in April/June.
I work in the spreadsheet factory but have been fully remote for almost 3 years, lost the only reason I had for staying in the US so I’ve become one of those gentrifying digital nomads
I’ve been spending this year living in different countries for a few months each to see where I want to ultimately end up. Been to Mexico, Japan, and currently Korea. I think Japan is by far the most trans friendly of those three, I met a lot of super cool trans/nb/gender nonconforming people there and the vibes were really good. Ofc I can only speak from second hand experience as a cis guy but it seemed like a really welcoming place overall.
Mexico City has a pretty sizable lgbtq+ community, my trans brother and his husband have lived there for two years with no issues. People are still generally less open about it though and I’d be wary of anywhere outside of CDMX as they tend to be much more catholic/reactionary.
Korea is uhhh not a good place to be a cis woman let alone gay or trans. Some of the men here can be incredibly hostile and outright violent to anyone outside their narrow range of “acceptability”. I’ve had numerous friends get harassed and assaulted by drunk assholes on the street before. 1/10 would not recommend
Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand are next up and from what I’ve heard are some of the most trans friendly places in Asia, I can keep you posted on how that pans out lol
Bro fell for the powerlifting meme 💀
Many of them do actually! The elevation is quite high around Zion/Bryce and gets a lot of rain, it’s loaded with cool foliage. Seconding that Utah is incredibly beautiful, my personal favorite nature in the entire continental US. If you’re into backpacking or any kind of outdoor shenanigans I can’t recommend it enough
Looks like typical gun fetishist stuff, what makes them Nazi bullet casings specifically? 9mm Luger is just the name for “normal” 9x19 rounds as opposed to 9mm Makarov. The big one is a .50 AE which is only used by chuds overcompensating with the largest possible pistol
I find it far more rewarding when I go into it with zero expectations and just kinda tease the real personality out of someone. I think practicing the ability to cut through all the bullshit is itself a worthy endeavor regardless of the outcome
Althusser got me feelin some type of way, how do I get off this wild ride and pretend anything has meaning again 💀
Damn I wish, I’d be all over the pretentious introvert app. I totally understand you though, I’ve been hitting a wall of meeting really beautiful, fun people that I don’t have any interest in because we don’t actually talk. A physical connection can only go so far before things fizzle out. I mean it’s not like language doesn’t have its own inherent limitations that prevent you from truly connecting with someone but fuck it’s the best thing we have.
You identified the unfortunate root of the problem: people that will talk your ear off about Lacan are probably not going to be out clubbing every weekend. Dating apps are realistically one of the only ways but it’s still so hard to find like minded people there. I really wish I had a solution for ya, still trying to figure that one out myself. Try not to chalk it up as a personal failure though, being single is absolutely fine! It’s hard to do but the more you put yourself out there and open yourself to new experiences the better your odds will be. You can occasionally get lucky and meet the coolest person in your life at a temple stay deep in some Korean mountains but it never lasts 😭
