I can't give you an answer to the legality question, but some additional information I heard in a podcast: The acquisitions came at a time when money was cheap and people were playing a lot more video games because of the pandemic. Unfortunately, they miscalculated because money is now much more expensive again and the gaming industry has not been able to retain these players across the board. Only 4 games that have come out since then have brought in much more than the production costs, which then had to finance the remaining ~15 (all from my memory, but it should be in the order of magnitude). That didn't work out and so now cuts have to be made to avoid burning even more money.

My fitness gym (Germany) has subscriptions, but there is also one that can be canceled monthly, which is offered at a discount, especially at the beginning of the year, because of the new year resolutions, so people who regret it can cancel quickly. It is still available later in the year, but is then about 20% more expensive than if you enter into a contract for 12 months, which is still billed monthly and not all at once at the beginning. There is also a student discount that saves you around €200 a year. You can cancel online or on site, I've already done it once and it went without a hitch. So it seems to be a bit more convenient here than with OP. Although I would love a prepaid option as you describe.
As someone who is currently looking for a job, I can say that there is nowhere near the amount and selection of jobs on the job center database as there is on the big online job boards, at least for what I'm looking for, so I wouldn't necessarily rely on that.
I had this problem myself and really don't understand why this is so hard to find. My wife used a year ago and I wasn't able to find this feature again, so I looked in her browser history and found it. There isn't even a short accessible link, I can give you only this. Fill in your keywords, set the radius and in the lower left you can activate the alert. You need to be logged in with a gmail though to use the alerts.
Also it may not work on mobile and sometime I have problems with Firefox as well. If you want to be sure use Google Chrome on a desktop for this. I wouldn't be surprised if this is another stab to Firefox users.
Not OP, but I use Google Jobs where they aggregate jobs from every job website. I have around 40 job keyword alerts and get the daily new jobs in a 50 km radius. The only bad thing about this are the duplicates from similar keywords, so I wrote a python script that creates an Excel file with unique jobs from the mails and the most important job information.

Well this can get quite complicated to implement I suppose. I heard letterboxd works nice for discovery if you are lazy, but I don't know if they have a jellyfin plugin.
