Meta disbanded its Responsible AI team
  • So far Zuck has been the biggest contributor to the open source LLM scene, releasing LLaMA 1 and 2 for free. They also released PyTorch for free, which is quite important to AI development.

Yes, Facebook is shitty, but Musk has been a lot better about AI stuff.

  • Supportive rule
  • Because humans are social creatures, and we like to know that other people understand our pain.

For example, I might complain that I got a bad review as an actor. What I need is for people to say "Fuck that critic!" and "That really sucks man." not "Have you tried taking classes to get better?" Sure, that's objectively the correct advice but it isn't what even the most logical human wants to hear when they're upset.

  • Piracy is Preservation
  • Was just thinking about this. Usenet guarantees a certain amount of time ~10 years, and a torrent only lasts as long as people are willing to seed. The problem is, long term seeding takes up too much individual space, and I never know when it's necessary. Obviously I'm not wasting 500GB of storage to seed something with 100+ seeders. More trackers should offer bonus points for things with less than 2-3 seeders to ensure long term survival of the media.

  • May as well buy burgers in the US, since you already paid for most of it through taxes!
  • You want the real reason in a thread jerking off vegetarianism? Here goes:

    1. Meat tastes great.
    2. It gives me a sense of fullness that plants rarely do (except beans).
    3. It's a better protein source.
    4. The iron, B12, etc. in it are more easily absorbed.
    5. Every brand of fake meat I've tried tastes terrible.
    6. It makes me feel the best mentally compared to eating other foods.
  • Anon is disillusioned about Starfield
  • Cyberpunk is a great open world RPG once you get past the 2-3 hours of mandatory railroaded story missions. Seriously I don't know how they fucked that part up so badly. It's like they saw the platinum chip storyline from New Vegas and said "You know that's cool, but what if instead of letting the player choose we make them watch a feature length movie about this plot?"

  • Actor Stephen Fry says his voice was stolen from the Harry Potter audiobooks and replicated by AI—and warns this is just the beginning
  • You can not copyright aspects of your likeness. There are specific things that can be copyrighted in the US, and that is not one of them.

There are laws against having your likeness used for commercial purposes but that gets pretty murky when it comes to voices.

  • whatever convinces people that its a bad idea
  • Nobody fearmongering in this thread seems to have any idea how it works.

A brain chip would connect to a specific region of your brain. For example, in the case of a physical disability it would only need to connect to your motor neurons using read-only connectors.

If you specifically had them implant read/write connections into your visual cortex, then sure, someone could hack it and play ads in your head but that's kind of on you at that point.
