Bid to criminalise water companies that don’t tackle sewage spills fails
  • I will probably do the same. Never really understood tactical voting. Is it just so you can say you voted for the winner? Realistically one vote here or there is unlikely to swing it so surely just vote for the candidate/party you want regardless of their chances?

The party may have a 30-point lead in the polls, but its lack of real offering to voters will soon cause problems

Gary, Indiana’s lawsuit against gunmakers is shot down by a new law, after surviving 25 years of appeals
  • In 2015, Indiana’s then-governor, Mike Pence, signed a law making the state’s immunity law retroactive to Aug. 26, 1999, four days before the city of Gary initially filed its lawsuit.

How can you sign a retroactive law? Essentially making things legal which were illegal when they were committed and what about criminalising things which were legal? Could people be prosecuted for things that became crimes after they did them?

  • FarmBot: Open-Source CNC farming
  • I am really interested in small scale farm automation but not 3k interested! Keep meaning to automate irrigation which would save me a lot of time watering but not cost too much. Cnoc farming would be a fun project though

    Removal of piracy communities
  • Thank you for your hard work. I feel that a delay of a few hours is acceptable for a voluntary service. I am sure there are many commercial services which have much worse communication.

I personally feel that being able to discuss piracy but banning communities that have links that actively promote piracy seems like a sensible safe legal position. This is probably what I would do if there was even a possibility I might be legally liable for an instance.

I can understand users frustration but I don’t think it’s fair to take it out on the admins. It is a thankless task which people do to benefit their community. The great thing with the fediverse is that you have other low cost options to turn to if an instance no longer works for you.

  • Nom~
  • My cat does this, he’s such a shit, a minute later he will hop on my lap for cuddles, “let’s just ignore the fact I just savaged you.” I then of course reward his had behaviour with strokes and cuddles!

  • Vulnerable man pleads with UK government to block extradition to U.S.
  • Yeah I mean the language of grooming and exploitation tends not to be associated with hacking. However a 14 yo without any friends and a difficult home life starts getting admiration from a peer group for hacking into systems could soon lead to them getting drawn into greater illegal acts to gain approval.

While it has real consequences, I think hacking can feel a little less real than breaking into a bank, especially for kids. I am certain if the money spent by the authorities in 52 years incarceration was invested into rehabilitation, society would benefit much more.

  • Forking heck
  • We have some forks which are made out of really thin tin you can bend them very easily. I hate those forks. No one uses them. I wish they would take the hint and fork off, instead they hang around trying to blend in with the better cutlery and get picked by accident.

Government’s own research contradicts Sunak’s 20mph speed limit claim
    www.opendemocracy.net Government’s own research contradicts Sunak’s 20mph claim

Study in 2018 found most drivers backed plans despite PM’s claim they ‘don’t reflect people’s priorities’

    Government’s own research contradicts Sunak’s 20mph claim

Recently drove in Scotland where built up areas generally have 20mph speed limits. I found It made little difference in overall journey time Felt safer, stopping distance much reduced Easier to join the traffic Similar speed as cyclists Felt safer and more relaxed as a pedestrian, easier to cross the road
