  • Could not get it through a coworker's head that there is something fundamentally wrong with expecting people to work at jobs lower than COL. They just say that person should get a better job if it doesn't pay bills... Not everyone gets that opportunity.

    Fuck you-got mine mindset.

  • Go to school, then be 'too smart' for the job market, but not smart enough to not be replaced by a H1B visa that the employer can use to force sub-mimimum wage conditions on someone else.

Just another way to get people into the poverty spiral, extra credit if they move laterally into the prison slave labor spiral.

  • This one works in my company. If you have a ticket with no actionable items (you can't do anything to improve it or it is complete), then you use that lack of actionable items to make a timer to close it, or pressure the team you're waiting on.

  • Computers were not designed to roll over the year. This would have caused the dates to roll back to 1900 or some day in the past, breaking any logic doing math on dates.

The programming community made huge efforts to fix this problem, and they did across many sectors.

The fact that people don't understand how big of a deal this was is due to the efforts of those that did and were able to correct it.

The media talking about power outages and nukes launching due to Y2K was standard news hype/fear mongering during a crisis with rather boring (to the layman) causes and fixes.
