  • This is the main problem right now.

People want to return to a lighter simple Windows OS, but Microsoft is making that increasingly hard to access. The LTSC version of Windows 10 is close(No AI, No Ads, and minimal telemetry that can be disabled), but they dont sell it to the public unless you buy 5 copies, and there is no LTSC version of Windows 11 yet. looks like they finally released it a couple months back, but people are unhappy with it.

Linux offers an alternative, but compatibility is still a huge issue despite the impressive gains Wine and Proton have made in the last few years.

The reality is that if you have a Windows PC you can basically guarantee that you can install anything you might want(barring hardware limitations). You can often make that software work on Linux too, but there is always some tinkering involved and the general public doesn't want to deal with that, nor do they want to change to a FOSS alternative.

  • Bluesky is...fine. Currently, it operates the way that I wish Twitter did. It lets you curate your feed, it shows the feed in chronological order, and finally and most importantly it has a critical mass of users so there is actual content there, rather than every 5th post complaining about how everyone is on another platform or not using Linux.

Really, the only issue I have with it is that it is owned by a corporation. But like Twitter and Reddit, I am willing to abandon it for something else when it gets shittier.

  • Pretty good, actually. Assuming that you can brand it the right way.

For example, if you're okay catering to gay men and can position yourself as a confident top with a dad-bod, there is a market for you.

  • “I am LGBT and Mentally Ill,” one post by an employee on an internal Meta platform called Workplace reads. “Just to let you know that I’ll be taking time out to look after my mental health.”

Ah, the old calling in to work because you're too gay

  • I'm not worried about this specific apocalypse, if only because there is literally nothing that can be done to prevent it nor stop it if it starts.

I'm far more worried about more localized, preventable, human-caused apocalypse like climate or nuclear war.

  • Total shot in the dark knowing basically nothing about the situation, but if your house is over 10 years old and you also have cable internet, you might have a MoCA filter somewhere along the coax line(They can be outside too)

They were installed all over the place to prevent interference between cable TV and cable Internet, but sometimes they cause problems getting a stable internet connection

  • I often explain it as though they're asking an airplane mechanic to fix their Honda Civic. The principals are the same(fuel goes in, rotation comes out) but the machines are so different that doesn't help much from a practical standpoint
