Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet
  • Do you trust every one-sided story to be entirely accurate of all details?

And what does trust have to do with it? Can we use Ethernet here? If the person says no, would you just walk around the building until you found a port and plugged in?

  • ByteDance prefers TikTok shutdown in US if legal options fail, sources say
  • Not really. It depends on what it is. There are entire games and items that aren't available in the US, but make a killing in Asia.

Like, here's Genshin Impact numbers from 2023.

On that game, the US comes in at 7th, is less than half of the top country (Japan) and is notably behind Switzerland.

For Tik Tok specifically, we can look at their annual reports.

Let's look at average annual users per region. 682M in Asia Pacific, which does not include China. 192M in North America.

    China's numbers are 750M daily.

I don't think most of their money comes from the US.

  • USDA updates rules for school meals that limit added sugars for the first time
  • Most American bread has sugar added to it, even the 'healthy' stuff.

When I was trying to switch to healthier breads, I tried a Pepperidge Farm bread once. It was so sweet, it was like eating brioche, but it was marketed as just normal standard bread. Absolutely disgusting. I don't buy that brand anymore at all.

  • LastPass users targeted in phishing attacks good enough to trick even the savvy
  • Why would you ever divulge your master password to anyone? There's not a reason to. Even if you die, you can set for someone else to get access to your account after X number of days, all without giving your master password.

  • Democratic majority in Michigan House restored with special elections
  • They would have to get through the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, which is already part of the state constitution after voters approved Proposal 18-2 in 2018.

I suppose that 13 bad actors could be randomly selected from the applications. It's not statistically impossible.

  • What is this even trying to say? Are they stealing? Are they cheating on a diet? Like, it's be your best, not be perfect at everything. Some days your best is just what it is and some days that's something else.

There's not enough context in this.

  • Why do Americans measure everything in cups?
  • It's a lot easier for me to scoop 1/2 teaspoon of two spices, one tablespoon of another, and 2 teaspoons of a fourth than to measure 1.8 grams of one, 2.2 grams of one, 5.2 grams of one, and 3.8 grams of a fourth. The scoops I can put in the container and level off the top using the same container. The other way, I have to gently sprinkle or slowly scoop and sprinkle so it doesn't go over the required amount.

Way faster for me to scoop, level, dump.

  • Is this thought about school too radical?
  • Well, then you have folks like my brother who was Kid B, but doesn't have ADHD and was just a lazy fuck who didn't see the point of schoolwork. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The average school is going to be built for the average kid to pass. That means more points are going to be in the day-to-day work rather than the big tests. So if your class has 500 points available and only 100 of those are tests, then yeah, you're going to fail when you only get 100/500 points.

However, if you have a kid B, then it's worth looking into if your area has alternate programs from the average curriculum and seeing if they would work for your kid.

  • I miss people looking like humans.
  • Well, I wouldn't say that plastic surgery is intended to make you look beautiful. It's intended to alter your looks in the way that you prefer. All that matters is that the person getting it done is happy with the result. Not some other random person who isn't them.

Also, beauty standards change a lot. Just look at how fashion changed from the middle ages through the Renaissance and after. You can tell what features were important by how garments were designed.

I'm not a fan of duck lips either, but I also don't have to get them.

Ancients Paladin -7th Lvl Feature Issue

So I play an Ancients Paladin in one of my games and have the 7th lvl feature, which is resistance to magic damage caused by spells. Sounds great on paper.

The issue is that in the 2+ years I've had this feature, I've never once gotten to use it because any damage that we've taken is from a creature feature, not a spell, even if it functions like a spell. As we all know with Monsters of the Multiverse, this is going to be becoming the standard way of stat blocking monsters in the future, so the situation is just going to be exacerbated in the coming years of playing the character.

I've talked with my DM and we both agree that this is an issue as anyone having a character feature that's essentially dead is a problem. However, we don't really know what to do to fix it in a way that makes it satisfying and not overpowered or pandering (ie: artificially adding in spellcasters and say they're casting spells just so I get to use the feature). And since this isn't the main paladin subclass, we likely won't see if WotC decided to address it until next year when PHB 2024 comes out.. which is another year of feeling like there's a dead feature in my character.

Now, it is possible that the feature only exists to deal with friendly fire. Fortunately or unfortunately, my group is very good at avoiding friendly fire by having an evoker wizard who negates all AOE damage for us, a Bearbarian as the other front liner, and good tactical positioning of spells from the other spellcasters (one of whom is a moon druid and often in melee). If this is the case, it still feels bad as it just isn't something that occurs in our game.

I have tried doing some searching, but most discussion on this topic tends to be about what the feature actually affects (just damage from spells). Does anyone have any thoughts on how to adjust the feature so that it can actually be utilized against creatures going forward, but not be so overpowered that it just turns into resistance against magic damage.

Thanks in advance for any help. We're quite stumped on this one.
