Sounds like a sad attempt on Disney’s part because they couldn’t come up with a fresh new movie and instead are cannibalizing characters that should be focused on the tv side of the company.
I’m doing a chronological rewatch of the whole franchise and am at the episodes where DS9 and Voyager overlap. It is mind boggling how much better DS9 is. I find myself wanting to skip almost every Voyager episode so I can just get to the DS9 ones.
I’ve watched Picard and discovery twice now and can safely say they’re very pew pew. The third season of Picard rocks, regardless. I still consider discovery to be the worst of all Star Trek shows. At the end of the day, I love all trek, but those two are not the highlights of the franchise.
For one Star Trek isn’t fantasy in space which is honestly a lot more appealing to those of the nerdy persuasion.
Like, Star Wars has ships that can travel anywhere and basically instantly whereas there are actually in universe explanations for how that might work in Trek and you can’t just zoom home whenever you want - Star Trek Voyager is a whole show about a ship that can’t return home. There are also just way better characters in trek and enough variety that everyone has different favorites.
It’s also nice that many of the conflicts in trek are solved through logic, diplomacy, and smarts. Only in Star Trek Discovery and the Picard show does the franchise venture too far into “pew pew” territory.
At the end of the day Star Wars is like 10 movies and a handful of shows that don’t do much and Trek has that many movies plus like 700 episodes of content.
One last tidbit, most of trek actually flows really well into each other and I think is way more cohesive than Star Wars where each era of movies feels like a different universe.
I wear a TNG uniform to my local ren fair every year - it almost exclusively generates excitement and high fives.
Honestly not what I expected but I’m interested.
lol what a lame post
Make sure you keep in mind this is a sub 100 million dollar movie and most of the scenes were shot guerrilla style with a team of 4 people. What they achieved with this approach is nothing short of incredible. The CGI pieces got a lot of love because the actual scenery and backgrounds are real and shot on location leaving the budget to be placed on the robots and future tech. I really hope it inspires other filmmakers to try a similar approach. The way the movie is made excuses some of the faults I’ve seen levied online IMO. The movie isn’t perfect but damned impressive.
Major shareholders sign term sheets which always govern the terms of who is prioritized with profit, major decisions or in any economic event. Breaking term sheets is breaking a contract which is illegal in the sense it has legal consequence for not being adhered to. Especially if it involves a public company and is under SEC jurisdiction.
Because he’s fully functional.
Still won’t help you get around a permaban if that’s what you’re thinking. Can’t think of another reason why you’d want to buy one.
Honestly one of my favorite things about Star Trek are all my favorite “that guy’s” that show up. Was rewatching DS9 the other night and was like ITS BEN HORNE FROM TWIN PEAKS! Leland being a crazy religious proto-Vulcan in TNG was also a fun appearance.
Honest opinion - it was just below mediocre. Very undercooked and you could feel how the producers jumbled around the episodes and changed things. Like most of the marvel shows it feels very amateurish and part of the reason Feige\Iger are changing things with marvel studios and now starting to bring in actual tv producers instead of using the movie folks.
This dude thinks he’s a Vulcan lol
There are no laws that govern his crimes
I fully support this. Also the Hornblower movies.
Guinan shoulda replaced Troi. She’s 1000% better at helping you solve your problems.
You can go watch it right now.
It was honestly a perfect combo of the two shows. Many moments had me howling.
From SDCC also comes the announcement IDW is releasing a special comic honoring 'Star Trek: The Animated Series.'

I am flabbergasted that this actually got made! I loved this game series as a kid and am morbidly curious about a tv adapation.
Before “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” even opened, the Disney adventure tentpole sparked intrigue with a de-aged Harrison Ford, who, in his fifth film playing the whip-cracking archaeologi…
I’m a huge Indiana Jones fan and finally saw Dial of Destiny last night. Sadly, I didn’t really enjoy it. The deaging was distracting and didn’t add anything to the story and Harrison Ford is honestly too old to be playing Indy anymore. His performance reminded me of Patrick Stewart in Picard - trying so hard to reach the quality of his former iconic character but not having the ability anymore to do it successfully. I also expected more from Mangold. Logan was such a high quality movie that I assumed everything Mangold would do after would be top tier but this movie kinda proves that Disney’s army of producers can ruin any talented directors work and there’s no reason to get excited about a specific director if Disney is involved.
What did y’all think of Dial of Destiny? Do you feel similar or are my opinions off base?
Season of the Malignant starts July 20
Seems like a solid first season! I’m most excited for the story - it’s described as a stand-alone tale instead of a direct continuation of the campaign. It will deal somewhat with the fallout of Inarius’ death and what’s going on with the Cathedral of Light now. This will certainly be a treat for us lore-nerds.
Anyone else gonna be starting the season day 1?
Felt like a neat add on to TOS but probably my least favorite of the season so far even tho I did like it.
I’m still pretty lukewarm on the Pike/Batel relationship. The reunion at the end didn’t feel very earned. Would be nice to get some more time with those two so I can get why I’m supposed to like them as a couple.
Hey folks,
I setup a community called nerdgeist on lemmy.world as an inclusive space to nerd out around stuff you’re passionate about that maybe those in your immediate IRL communities don’t appreciate as much.

My partner and I just started it and are about 6 episodes in and it’s honestly pretty interesting. It has some YA novel feeling issues but it overall seems like a well done show.
I like how the showrunners are able to have all the characters talk to and treat younger people in the show like they’re normal adults/people. There’s no talking down or disregarding them because of their age. The one time where someone tried that (when the aeronaut met Lyra) the notion got shot down immediately. Is that an aspect in the books as well? Seems like a refreshing choice.

I'd love to hear what folks have been playing/reading/watching lately. For me, I've been having a blast with Diablo 4, so much so that I finished the campaign and decided to go back to the very beginning and play Diablo 1. The main nerdy show's I'm watching are Silo and Strange New Worlds. Im liking Silo but hope season 2 steps up the writing. SNW is top notch like it has been since it started. As far as reading, I'm in the middle of Tom King's Supergirl series and have been enjoying it greatly.
Looking forward to building with you, Clark.
