Why do we hate commercials and advertisements?
  • It makes me waste my time in a way. Even if it's a five second commercial, I feel like it's diverting my attention to something else, which could be dangerous in some (albeit extremely) edge cases.

A case that makes me especially angry involves this application I use to consult the arrival time of several train and bus stations I usually go to. If the mission statement is to be able to know which platform should I head to in order to reach my train on time, then adding advertisements is like kicking me right at the balls, because they sure as hell are going to show up at the worst moment possible.

  • ✨️ Finish him. ✨️
  • What the fuck is LeCum thinking about? I work in academia and I couldn't give a shit about being remembered, I just want to live to fight another day like the next guy.

    This feels like billionaire banter.

  • And it went Gold
  • This doesn't seem right. Barry White wrote Love's Theme around 1965, and released it in 1973. It also reached number 1 on Billboard, so I guess that counts as (US) mainstream.

  • This week in KDE: Triple buffering and other sources of amazingness
  • It feels to me that it's looking to replace the Cut and Paste operations. This makes perfect sense for a tactile device, but I don't feel like Dolphin is tactile ready - other KDE apps like Index intend to cover that ground instead.

  • KRunner vs Application Launcher (use cases?)

Lately, I found out that Application Launcher also features all the functionality I use from KRunner.

In my particular experience, Application Launcher is snappier at first launch and also returns results rather quickly. For me, this begs an obvious question.

What's the use case for using KRunner over the Application Launcher?

So far I've noticed that pressing Enter on the Calculator results makes the entry be copied on KRunner, but this does not happen for the Application Launcher. I'm certain there must be something else to it, otherwise people would not be using it (even I found myself using it from time to time, but could not understand why).

I am only posting this in the hopes that old users who moved to Plasma 6 may catch up on the news.
