Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • mbin has had an accessible API for a few months now. You can use Interstellar with for example (not on iOS thuogh)

  • When is a new update to ActivityPub coming?
  • I absolutely see the problem, but making users host their own server to host their actor profile and posts is just too complicated. I mean why not just host the whole AP server then... Additionally it reminded me a lot of Activity Pods

  • How does it work? I can't find any info about that in !canvas@toast.ooo at least not in the description or a pinned post

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • well server uptime is usually, and in the case of fediverse observer, coupled to a successful response. If the server spits out a 500 internal server error, that does not count as being up

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • Interstellar could support iOS, but the dev was actually the one that told me about the costs and that he just don't want to pay it. Maybe he could be convinced to support iOS if a developer or tester with an iPhone helped him and the community chipped in for the dev account. After all he does everything for free, like most of us do

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • I think the instance is not showing because it is not online at the moment... here you can see the stats of kbin.social on fediverse observer https://kbin.fediverse.observer/kbin.social

    Regarding the amount of instances and the rather small users/server: a lot of the mbin instances used to be kbin ones (like you can tell by their name) including mine. So we did not start with one central instance that all the users went to, but with a lot that already had a small number of users. And the project itself is not that old, not even a year (we start in September or October 2023). I'd say we really only have one hyperfocused instance and that being rimworld.gallery

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • I've recently heard that an iOS developer account costs 100$/year. I think that's one of the reasons why...

  • Umfrage: Neue deutschsprachige Lemmy-Instanz

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • https://kbin.fediverse.observer/kbin.social there you can go to graphs and see the uptime. The overall uptime is actually still quite good with 95.94%, but in recent months it has been a bit rough

  • Kbin.social down again? Are people moving to mbin instances (kbin.run, fedia.io)?
  • I think it is good to point it out though. kbin.social is missing from the fediverse observer, but if you have a look at this: https://mbin.fediverse.observer/list you'll see that almost all mbin servers have a >98% recent uptime and a >95% uptime over the whole lifetime of the server. Sadly, fedidb does not have an uptime metric

    (yes mine is not up there, because it was offline for a week in september last year)

    [Fixed] Mouse Cursor jumps around

    Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with my mouse: when I switch the window focus, e.g. by alt tabbing to another window, or by closing a window, and the newly focused window is on my other monitor my mouse will jump to that monitor without me doing anything. It is not a deal breaker or something, but it is very annoying...

    I am using Fedora 39 with Gnome 45 with xorg, nvidia 2070 super, running the nvidia drivers and a Ryzen 3600.

    I looked in my control center for mouse options, but they are very much limited

    Software vs Hardware RAID

    I am thinking of extending my storage and I don't know if I should buy a JBOD (my current solution) or a RAID capable enclosure.

    My "server" is just a small intel nuc with an 8th gen i3. I am happy with the performance, but that might be impacted by a bigger software RAID setup. My current storage setup is a 4-bay JBOD with 4TB drives in RAID 5. And I am thinking of going to 6 x 8TB drives with RAID 6 which will probably be more work for my little CPU

    Remmina not working with Windows 10 RDP anymore

    Hi guys, Remmina won't connect to a windows 10 PC via RDP anymore. It worked until I upgraded to Fedora 39 (I think, maybe its something different though). I cannot see anything in the logs indicating what the error might be. I tried messing with the settings, particularly the TLS and Gateway ransport type settings, but that didn't change anything. It is not timing out eigher, the disconnect is nearly instant.

    Cannot read files from SD card which works fine under windows

    I have a SanDisk 256GB extreme pro SD card for my camera. It works perfectly fine with the camera and with windows, but when I instert it into the card reader on linux (fedora 38) I can't copy any files from it:

    > > > cp: Fehler beim Lesen von '.../DCIM/112\_FUJI/DSCF2001.RAF': Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler > >

    Loosely translated:

    > > > cp: error while reading from '.../DCIM//112\_FUJI/DSCF2001.RAF': input/output error > >

    the card is automatically mounted and shows up in the file explorer.

    The fdisk command return this:

    ``` Festplatte /dev/sdg1: 238,27 GiB, 255835766784 Bytes, 499679232 Sektoren Einheiten: Sektoren von 1 * 512 = 512 Bytes Sektorgröße (logisch/physikalisch): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes E/A-Größe (minimal/optimal): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes Festplattenbezeichnungstyp: dos Festplattenbezeichner: 0xf4f4f4f4
    ```

    I tried following this: https://www.reddit.com/r/raspberry\_pi/comments/habv0q/fixing\_linux\_sd\_card\_reader\_issues\_inputoutput/ but it didn't change anything

    Does anyone have any idea?

    EDIT: I used the wrong fdisk command. I used /dev/sdg1 as opposed to /dev/sdg which is the actual drive. Here is the output of fdisk -l /dev/sdg:

    ``` Festplatte /dev/sdg: 238,3 GiB, 255869321216 Bytes, 499744768 Sektoren Festplattenmodell: STORAGE DEVICE Einheiten: Sektoren von 1 * 512 = 512 Bytes Sektorgröße (logisch/physikalisch): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes E/A-Größe (minimal/optimal): 512 Bytes / 512 Bytes Festplattenbezeichnungstyp: dos Festplattenbezeichner: 0x00000000
    Witcher 3 not launching at all
    Hi everybody, A few months back I bought the Wichter III complete edition in a steam sale. I finally have time to play it and now it won't launch. Not on my steam deck and not on my Fedora PC. On PC it is just stuck saying "is beeing started" right next to the play button. On my steam deck it is stuck on a blackscreen with a steam loading symbol...
    Has anyone else had these problems?
    Peertube creator business model
    @peertube I just watched @thelinuxEXP 's video over on @tilvids regarding the dying of the ad supported internet. He said that #peertube will propably not be replacing #youtube because it has no business model for creators and I think this is sadly very true. However, I think there could be one. One like the YouTube premium model where the instance pays the creators by the watchtime share of a paying user. This could (propably) even be implemented today: an instance could pay a cut of their donations to all creators by their server wide watchtime. The instance could have a cut of, say 30% (random number) to pay for the servers. Its not the same, by any means, but it would be a start. THe difficult part is obviously, that the server needs the IBAN, paypal address, or any other way to pay each creator and the instance should be very transparent when it comes to money. Another way would be a kind of channel membership where some videos are only displayed to paying members of the channel, and the money from such a subsription should go solely to the creator (after the payment processing fees). Another problem is of course that each instance has more to do. Handling money always comes with a lot of work and they'd need an account of some sort to handle that...
    So obviously not an easy thing to do, but I think it is absolutely needed to get more creators on board. I'd like to see @peertube implementing something for this, because it would be huge for the platform.
