I ordered my daughter a pizza, something I don't usually do. I got Domino's smallest size with two toppings. I got her cheese sticks and two sauces and tipped the driver 20%. $31.07.
  • Yea, pizza places have gotten out of hand in recent years.

Adding a delivery fee (which doesn't go to the driver) from locations that only do delivery.

How about fuck you and your delivery fee. Which is why I refuse to have pizza delivered any more. Plus they invariably get lost, though we're a few hundred yards from their store.

Little Seizures sells the same pizza for half the price, or less, than Papa John's, before those fees are tacked on.

  • Body found during search for missing hiker in San Diego: Police - ABC News
  • Sad to hear.

    Never hike alone.

Never hike without a clear plan, with others aware of that plan.

Take plenty of water, take food (emergency rations that can tolerate heat are pretty cheap).

Wear appropriate clothes, have stuff in your pack.

    Have a communications plan.

  • Think of the children!
    1. It wasn't "free" - you paid for it in taxes

    2. How are those wait lists going for you, which are currently being debated by your MPs?

    3. It's funny how y'all are shouting about this to Americans. Do you really think they aren't aware you have socialized medicine?

  • Beyond Ozempic. New GLP-1 drugs promise weight loss and health benefits Researchers at the ADA conference in Orlando are expected to present data on 27 GLP-1 drugs in development.
  • Boy, I'm so glad you aren't running med research, or people my family would be suffering, or dead.

The meds we have today were unthinkable 50,60 years ago.

Are there issues with the system? Yes, huge ones - I could write a book on them. But your attitude is frankly juvenile.

  • The Washington Post Wants You To Think the Economy Is Awful #45,706
  • Ah, yes, pissing on my back and telling me it's raining, followed by telling us we can't possibly understand it, so we're wrong.

Got any other sophistry you'd like to employ?

Ffs, the economy is tanking, with major metrics showing it for years now.

  • My girlfriend has ADHD and has is usually procrastinating studying (she has a big exam in a few months), is there anything I can do to help her with this without being prying?
  • Lots of good ideas here, but don't forget to discuss these ideas with her first.

I'd recommend reading ADHD and Adults, it's a good intro to how ADHD works differently in adults than children.

Then maybe talk about her difficulties with her, and ask how you can help. Work to understand her perspective first, what she finds difficult, what she finds frustrating.

Then pick one thing, together, that you can help with. You need to work as a team, taking on challenges together (this is sort of relationships 101, it's a team thing).

  • What industry secret are you aware of that most people aren't?
  • Most lotions contain dimethicone, a silicone relative.

They both work by being moisture barriers, preventing moisture loss (for hand lotion).

As someone who struggles with skin issues, I don't even bother with lotions that don't have dimethicone, they're practically useless for me.

  • What industry secret are you aware of that most people aren't?
  • Yes, no, sort of.

I mean shampoo is definitely not the same as laundry soap.

And even between shampoos, there are differences (as anyone with skin conditions can attest).

Are products in any one category largely the same? Yes. But there are differences.

  • Fuck both of us
  • Does the slide absorb any significant amount of energy?

The spring can't be all that strong since they can be assembled by hand, and what does the slide weigh? (Granted the slide is being accelerated, so I assume that's where the bulk of energy is dissipated, MV^2 and all).

What's the math on this, say the dissipated energy in a semi auto VS revolver using the same round?

(Really I'm curious what the numbers are, as I've read this many times but have no idea what the comparison is like).

  • Fuck both of us
  • Do they typically even use something with as much energy as a 9mm? I thought they were typically smaller rounds like 38 or 22, since it's a close range gun?

I really don't know anything about them, would be interesting to see a chart of them.

  • That moment when she puts down the paint to be arrested, and he picks it back up and continues spraying 😙🤌
  • "We all have a right to a life without suffering" bwhahahaha..

To quote Wesley "Life is pain, highness, anyone saying otherwise is selling something".

Being born is a process filled with suffering... And it continues from there.

  • looking for suggestions for a home networking solution
  • I refuse to use Unifi products after a client's one year old Cloudkey died because they use an actual hard drive inside for the OS, not just the data (it's designed for storing NVR recordings).

They don't even mirror the drive locally. There's just everything wrong with this approach. The OS should run from M2 and the data drive needs to be mirrored - this is just basic high availability design today. And for the price they charge, there's no reason to not do this. I just wonder what the requirements discovery looked like, and who signed off on such a weak approach.

For the price of a cloud key (which is essentially required for a business environment), it's a piece of shit. Plus the damn things die all the time.

Add to it the whole system is problematic - they're slow to discover devices when setting up/reconfiguring/replacing hardware, we're constantly having to tinker with client sites for odd disconnects, etc.

Unifi belongs in the bin. For a home user you'd be better off with any decent consumer router, which doesn't have the unnecessary complexity (and learning curve) of Unifi. I hate that it's what our company prefers to deploy.

  • Embarassing(?) confession
  • Shoot some Great Stuff into the speaker hole. (Not really, no, don't do this with something that heats up).

You could open it up, find the little speaker (probably a tiny little thing) and disconnect it or put some glue in it (like Goop).

  • ShotSpotter does not reduce gun violence or increase clearance rates
  • Of course not, how could it?

Its just a wealth transfer from the state (our tax dollars) to a private firm. Same as speed cameras, where typically 80% of the "civil fees" go to the camera operating company.
