Dropbox is sharing users' files with OpenAI, here's how to opt out
  • I havent yet dealt with the customer service so this is indeed something to keep in the back of my head.

Does internxt and skiff also provide fully setup nextcloud instances or do you need to set it up yourself?

I’m reading that nextcloud tends to break whenever you update it or perform administrative tasks. Hetzner does al this for you so that’s a bonus item.

  • It's Time to Ditch Evernote for One of These Alternatives
  • I also take a lot of handwritten notes but disliked the hand writing UI on Onenote, I’m using Goodnotes for this.

It would be great to have all my notes in one system but I don’t mind that much. Goodnotes has good OCR so I can search my notes.

  • Does anyone else feel like every year is like the movie 'Groundhog Day'? Same holidays, same birthdays, same work week, etc
  • Assuming you don’t have any mental health issues make sure you make every day worth living.

If you do have mental health issues you should probably get that looked at by a professional.

If you feel like life is a drag, and you dislike it, change it.

Try a new sport, build that hobby project you’ve always wanted, buy a motorcycle, plan a boardgame night with friends family, try that fetish you’ve been eyeing your whole life.

Don’t be a passenger in your own life.

  • You go to this website from Hetzner:

    https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share

You sign up for one of the plans, cheapest is 5.11 EUR a month. You’ll get 1 TB of storage for this.

Storage Share is essentially some space on a server from Hetzner where the Nextcloud software is already running.

  • If you’re fed up with companies fucking you over there’s an alternative.

There software called Nextcloud which you can run on a server which works in comparable ways as Onedrive/Google Drive/Dropbox/etc. works.

You could host it yourself on a server if you know how.

If you’re not familiar with forwarding ports or setting static IP adresses you can rent some server space from Hetzner where Nextcloud is included.

  • Is it a negative thing that I exclusively read books in English rather than in my native language?
  • Due to pop culture (movies, shows, games, etc.) I learned English. I also picked up two other languages due to school and influences from vacations.

So I’m fluent in three languages (Dutch, German and English) and can speak enough French to manage on vacations.

I read most of my books in English because I like to read books in their original language. I read a lot of hard scifi, this is a pretty specific genre and there’s little books in Dutch hard scifi books.

In Dutch I read general novels with no specific genre.

  • I might move again. (Or not)
  • Thanks for the information. This is putting me off on Lemmy a bit, feels like I got to keep up with the latest instance drama to ensure I have a good experience.

Guess that’s the trade of with a decentralized system for now.

  • Is it a negative thing that I exclusively read books in English rather than in my native language?
  • I also only read English for a long time instead of my own language.

I picked up some books in my native language and was pleasantly surprised.

The language in itself doesn’t matter but I could notice the writer was from my culture. There’re slight cultural references in books written by people from my culture.

In books from American writers theres also these cultural references which I understand because I grew up on the internet but still it’s not my culture.

I would recommend to check if you’re country/culture has some literature award prizes and check out some of the top books. Make sure to try a couple as a well reviewed book might not mean it’s a good fit for you.

  • So this would mean I wouldn’t see some piracy related content? Because I’m subscribed to some piracy communities and I think I can see the content.

I’m not really up to date with how the links between the different Lemmy instances work

Purchasing and picking up train tickets for Naritaa - Kyoto

I’m arriving at Naritaa Airport at 08:35 and would like to continue my journey by train to Kyoto.

I’ve found I can take the Naritaa Express to Shinagawa. From there I can take the Shinkansen Hikari on the Tokaido line to Kyoto.

The problem is I’d like to reserve/purchase tickets beforehand. I understand I can purchase them online and I’ll need to pick them up. It seems that I can’t pick them up on Naritaa airport or in Tokyo because the Tokaido line is operated by JR West whilst Tokyo is in JR East.

If I purchase a train ticket online from Naritaa Airport to Kyoto where can I pick this up on the Naritaa airport?
