It is also kind of paid software? Source is available and you can compile it for free, but that takes some time and effort. And ready to use builds are not free.
Free refers to freedom, not price. It is perfectly acceptable to sell free software.

Many distros have it compiled and ready for use.
Probably I'm confused and it's just Windows binaries that are paid?
The flatpak version doesn't work?
It's just that single Allen bolt that always goes AWOL in shipping.
