Linux
- has boring name
Hurd
- has mutually recursive name
26 0 ReplyIt's time [to] explain the meaning of "Hurd". "Hurd" stands for "Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons". And, then, "Hird" stands for "Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth". We have here, to my knowledge, the first software to be named by a pair of mutually recursive acronyms.

I don't wanna be that guy but... Linux is a kernel and Hurd is an operating system, so technically neither of them run by default
4 25 ReplyHurd isn't an operating system tho. It's a bunch of microkernel servers for GNU Mach microkernel.
45 1 ReplyHurd is the Kernel part of the GNU. Linux is the kernel that replaces the kernel part of GNU because Hurd is not yet ready for 64 bit arch.
