See, this is what algorithms should be used for. Collating data on complex networks so it is easier for people to assess and fix problems. It's a tool, not a cure-all magical solution.
Exactly, these things are really good at analyzing huge amounts of data and doing extrapolations based on that. This is incredibly valuable for doing preventative maintenance, managing supply chains, tracking pandemic spread, power grid allocation, and so on. And in the west this stuff is just being used for chat bots. 🤦
Capitalism vs socialism in action. Socialism seeks to use the new technology to make people's jobs easier and more efficient, capitalism tries to use it to replace workers and provide distractions.
It's depressing to see so many AI powered FOSS projects that are basically just a chatbot/autocomplete or something that can spit out some images, when there are so many cool things you could use Neural nets for. For instance, as a FLOSS enthusiast a tool to help with reverse engineering proprietary binaries, specifically firmware and driver blobs would be awesome and could permanently change computing for the better. But everyone in the west seems to be more concerned with how they can use Neural nets to reduce production costs and increase profits.
I remember back in the day when google announced they had this neural network controlling the resources of their cloud computing infrastructure. Learning to pre-emptively spin up server clusters, provision storage, throttle networks etc. Everything seemed a little more hopeful back then. Now we have AI spam up to the eyeballs.
In the past year, none of China’s operational high-speed railway lines received a single warning that required speed reduction due to major track irregularity issues, while the number of minor track faults decreased by 80 per cent compared to the previous year.
According to the paper, the amplitude of rail movement caused by strong winds also decreased – even on massive valley-spanning bridges – with the application of AI technology.
It's actually crazy how much bad will and social strife has been caused in the West by AI because tech bros were given a free hand to do what they wanted.
Meanwhile, China has been quietly applying AI to industrial and commercial processes with great success but you seldom hear about it.
