Earlier this week, Netflix finally released viewership numbers for nearly all of its shows and movies. Bottom line: Expect a lot more 'The Night Agent.'
Motherfucker, that's what all streaming services are. The massive amounts of just absolute garbage that most of them are putting out is ridiculous. Just because a show here or there that catches your attention gets popular doesn't mean suddenly they're the epitome of highbrow entertainment.
Netflix has to churn out more and more original content (with the obvious result being a lot of it being mediocre) cause everyone and their mother decided they wanted their own streaming service, so they clawed their streaming rights away from Netflix.
That doesn't mean Netflix is a good guy, by any means, but they're hardly alone at the bottom of the barrel.
Is this news to literally anyone? Just okay TV has been a mainstay for my entire 30+ year life. How do you think shit like the masked singer, the seventh spinoff of NCIS, 18 law and orders, the voice, basically all reality TV, etc stay in the air so long? Recycled scripts, easy to make, low production costs. They don't need a lot of viewers. They only need enough viewers to glue eyes to the product/ads. In Netflix case it's not ads (yet...just wait), but every Mary and Jim that will watch easy to make trash just to have something on is a Mary and Jim that they can rely on to keep paying their subscription fee. The people that will consume just okay trash are the PRIMARY demographic for most content creators of all types, make no mistake.
