Fortnite: Welp, our plan for cosmetics with the ratings update didn’t hit the mark. We're working on a few new options that we hope to have in place for say... some sort of big in-game event...
Basically, Fortnite is rolling out a new system with user-generated "islands" that can have their own independent rating from the main game. If an island is rated E for everyone or E10+(as opposed to the base game's rating of T for teen), some of the game's cosmetics aren't able to be equipped in those areas. People are upset because 1. they paid for those, and 2. apparently there are inconsistencies between what is allowed and what isn't.
Fortnite is changing what skins can be equipped and where, including real-money paid for skins. Specifically, labeling some skins as not E™ for Everyone™ and only allowing them in non-E™ zones.
People are upset that the cosmetics they paid real human dollars for are going to be unusable where they want to play, defeating the entire point of spending money on a cosmetic.
People are also upset at seemingly arbitrary lines-in-the-sand drawn over which skins dont count as E™, and which do. In a "why is my skin off limits but that skin which is far less kid friendly is no issue?" style complaint.
