The new world's hottest pepper, Pepper X, is 3 times spicier than its predecessor

Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina said his team stabilized Pepper X about a decade ago, but only released it now because no one had been able to beat his previous record.

Can we just skip everything in between and eat lava?
- It's possible to obtain pure capsaicin. At this point I'm surprised it isn't for sale as a sprinkle-on condiment.

I know Ed Currie personally. He's a great dude, gives back to the community, and is a total mad scientist. He has peppers waiting in the wings which put this one to shame!
- Well...if so, what's he waiting for? Those would be the hottest peppers.
