I love being forced to look at reams of LLM-generated nonsense before the actual search results, thank you Google

I tried to find out how to get rid of AI Overview and got this. Feels like Google's dabbing on me

I would just not use google.
- Isn't DuckDuckGo just Google in a funny hat
  
  Duckduckgo is based on microsoft bing. Startpage is based on google. People recommend searx (aggregates multiple search engines and free) and kagi (paid).

Literally just use
google.com/search?udm=14&q=searchstring
That's all you need.
You can make that a default search engine in whatever browser you use so that it always defaults to that URL. See here for Firefox.
Note, if you do not have the udm=14 the AI overview is going to show up. As someone else mentioned, blocking with uBlock also works and is probably easier overall since the default search engine/bookmark trick can be finicky to work with.

I stopped using google and chrome a year ago and I never really missed them.
&udm=14 extension for firefox (incl mobile) will get rid of that and all the other widgets
Just ask the AI to summarise the text, silly! /s
Appending -ai to your search seems to get rid of most of it.
