Maybe with an autoexec.bat and a config.sys as plain-text files in the game distribution, so that you can still set up your network configuration, CD drive and sound card?
wouldn't that make it only work on windows? or dos, even?
YEARS OF BOOTING yet NO REAL-WORLD USE FOUND for anything other than BIOS
LOOK at what UEFI Forum have been demanding your Respect for all this time, with all the motherboards & computer we built for them
(This is REAL Firmware, done by REAL Computer Scientists)
They have played us for absolute fools
Hey, there's plenty of benefits to UEFI! You can boot from different partitions of the same drive without setting up grub, you can uhh.. um.... you can use the mouse
there were actual BIOS programs that can be interacted with a mouse :)

What the fuck? Why would Steam have access to the ESP
I imagine it doesn’t have write access. Unless OP is running Steam as root, in which case RIP.
lmao, what if single game distros, purely optimized to run a single game with only the dependencies needed to launch and run it.
Unreal Tournament 2003 actually came with a bootable DVD that would boot directly into Linux and run the game.
Fast forward 20 years and Epic actively hates Linux because Valve is improving it
Wait, what?
People have been crazy enough to try.
This is the only time I've ever been tempted to cheat
like on some sort of console?
modern consoles run a lot more than one game, not even just games.
Even consoles these days require you to install files onto the machine before it'll play...
That was a thing for DOS systems. Hell, for the Apple II, NES, and a bunch of other systems it was the only way to launch a program
Maybe with an
autoexec.bat
and aconfig.sys
as plain-text files in the game distribution, so that you can still set up your network configuration, CD drive and sound card?wouldn't that make it only work on windows? or dos, even?
