It's not a happy kingdom

The biggest travesty of this dungeon is that I don't recall ever finding anything that explains the huge number of statues all over the place, nor the "graveyard" of them where you fight the Marias guy just next to the castle.

I knew that was poison swamp immediately. Cool area though!
