Trump to Offer ‘Gold Card’ Visas for $5 Million to the Rich
President Donald Trump said he is starting a program to offer residency and a path to citizenship to investors who pay $5 million, offering a new avenue for legal immigration even as he carries out a sweeping crackdown on undocumented migrants.
Lutnick said the move could replace the existing EB-5 program, which allows immigrant investors to acquire green cards by investing a certain amount toward a business in the US.
This wouldn't be the worst idea if it went to social programs or is used to provide support to other citizens.
Asked by a reporter if participants would need to invest a certain amount of money to qualify for a gold card, Lutnick responded “yeah, exactly” but suggested that funds for the visa might be paid directly to the government.
Who will invest it in a range of smaller businesses... right?
“They can come to America. The president can give them a green card, and they can invest in America, and we can use that money to reduce our deficit,” he added.
And that's exactly what I expected instead. Well done. Reduce the deficit caused by lining oligarch coffers with taxpayer funds, skim a cool million or ten to go golfing on your own property, and shovel the rest into the military complex.

First off, the US, like most counties, has a Golden Visa program where you just invest $1 million (of $800k in some cases) and create 10 jobs in the US and you get a green card. Some EU countries have it as low as €100K for their version.
The difference with what's proposed is no (that I can find) job requirement. This is just a way for 1) Russian ologarcs to obscure their income first and divert everything to crypto or Caymans accounts, and then 2) buy US citizenship so they 3) can have sanctions drooped and don't get their yachts seized anymore.

You know, it just occured to me that if we manage to keep democracy going and reclaim the government in 4 years and hopefully revert taxes back to normal pre-reagan levels (or better), these newly minted citizens will have to pay taxes.
